Anyone remember what happened after Jon criticized "Crossfire?"
The old CNN show was certainly lame, but he criticized it using the same equivalency arguments he's using now. The show was cancelled soon after. My far right relatives used to watch Crossfire, and that was their only exposure anything even remotely liberal. Now they watch nothing but FAUX. Sooo....that was successful.

1. He sounded like a dipshit tonight.
The crossfire criticism was very passionate. This was dispassionate bullshit.

5. Stewart failed miserably
He attempted to play both sides against each other and it didn't fly. I have never been a big Stewart fan as I find him seriously immature and silly. But after tonight, I will not be watching him at all. He needs to go to Faux news. And yes, he did this interview tonight for one reason: RATINGS. I hope they plummet to hell.

17. He tried to come across as the "great mediator of sanity" but instead
came across as being very disingenuous. He, seemed at times, to ramble with no real coherent concept.

8. It died K&R
I just remarked on the same thing in another thread.

Crossfire was the ONLY place on cable where a "liberal" had even half a chance to speak. We couldn't have that, now could we, Mr. Stewart?

9. Crossfire had a major problem.
People were talking over each other. It was a bad example of what we should be doing, because frankly, anytime I'm in that kind of situation in real life, I try to figure a way to avoid that kind of confrontation again.

What would work, maybe, is the multiple screen effect. Liberal talking head on the left, conservative talking head on the right. And snopes moderators in the middle.

10. By The Time Stewart Was On Crossfire Was On Life Support...
Jon didn't kill the show, just pushed it close to the cliff. It's heydays were with Pitchfork Pat and Bill Press. By the time JS was on, the show was being "produced" by Robert Novak and had lost a lot of viewers. Chicken Noodle Nuze tried moving it to different times and hosts but the shows ratings kept sinking. By the time Jon launched his torpedo, CNN execs were looking for a reason to shitcan it.

In its day, Crossfire was cutting edge, but by 2000 it was just one more loud voice among many...and not a popular one.

(For disclosure...in June, 2002 I sat in the audience of the show at George Washington U...had to endure a half hour of a member of the "Iraqi National Congress" screaming Saddam had nukes and WMD...the show had become a tool for the boooosh war machine.)

11. Oh my fucking god you lament the loss of Crossfire?
Yes, blame Jon Stewart because CNN can't come up with a show worth watching. Blame Jon Stewart because your relatives are close minded idiots.

12. Any show with Tucker Carlson is destined to fail
I think you're overstating the effect Jon Stewart had on the show. It was just a coincident. It was canceled because of that snivelly little shit Tucker.

16. A horrible show all about shouting and that twit shaped bully
Tucker the Tie. Sorry, but that show was not good for anyone. Was thrilled to see it gone. Shouting and screaming and posturing. A format designed for the victory of the rudest player.
