pueblo man writes book defending pedophiles
Pueblo man writes book defending pedophiles

Topics: greaves, pedophilia, child, sex, abuse, book, amazon

Phillip Greaves' new book is causing controversy all over the country. It's called “The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure”. "I wanted to provide some guidelines for pedophiles so they could avoid hurting their victims," said Greaves. He said he's tired of people vilifying pedophiles. “I wrote the book because I felt that some people were being demonized unfairly.” explains Greaves. In the book, Greaves explains what he calls “A Child Lover's Code of Conduct”, guiding principles to a sexual relationship between an adult and a child. “To tell you the truth, I don't think that it's always bad for the child.” he says, “But I do think it's always confining for the adult.”

The electronic book is available for Amazon.com Inc.'s Kindle e-reader. The book has triggered mounting outrage on Twitter and beyond. A chorus of Twitter users is calling for Amazon to pull the book, with a few threatening to boycott the Kindle store until it does. Amazon told News First 5, “it is censorship not to sell certain books simply because we or others believe their message is objectionable.”

Ellen Cooney, the Executive Director of the Pueblo Child Advocacy Center is appalled by even the notion of such a book. “If you think about how we raise children, we raise them to obey adults.” she says, “We raise them to do what adults tell them to do. So a child is really not likely to say no, even if they don't like something.” Cooney believes a book like Greaves’ is in effect, a handbook on how to abuse children. “If we already have 200 children in Pueblo each and every year who we know are being abused because there's been a report, we don't need more assistance for people who are going to abuse those children.” she says. Greaves disagrees, “It's a guide to love and pleasure. It's not a guide to abusing children.”

As far as the legalities of such a relationship, Greaves thinks society is too harsh on pedophiles. When asked what penalties a pedophile should face, he replied, “If it was just something that the child didn't have any problems with, maybe a fine of some kind. But if it was actual physical harm, uh mental trauma? Oh a few years in jail perhaps.” As for public opinion surrounding “They're free to think whatever they want to think about the book.” Says Greaves, “I'm sure they're going to say lots of bad things. They have all kinds of negative publicity on it on Amazon already.”

3. I heard part of the interview on what passes for local news around here-- and seriously thought I
was going to vomit. The slimeball made me want to hurl things at the television, or scream at the station news manager. It was clear he was enjoying every second of his time in the spotlight, including his smarmy response to whether or not he was a pedophile: "the police have no record on me".

I seriously hope a boulder falls on him.

9. All true, but Hannah does have a point
and I have to wonder what it is we're being distracted from every time a story like this one gets pushed by the corporate media.

14. You can't possibly be serious,
That is one of the most messed up comments I've ever seen on DU from someone who purports to be concerned about the wellbeing of the weak and disenfranchised and you should be ashamed of yourself for making it.

17. you know, hannah, it is perfectly understandable what the media is doing. on the other hand, as we
say in so many other contexts, "the best disinfectant is sunlight"

bet most of his neighbors didn't know about him before now, because, as he so smugly pointed out, "the police have no record on me" therefore, he was not a registered sex offender.

10. Amazon is not responsible for protecting people from offensive content.
To me, the answer is remarkably simple: don't buy it and don't keep giving it free publicity. If people would IGNORE this shit instead of raising a stink, nobody would even know about this shitty book.

19. I find it very unlikely that writing and publishing such a book, in and of itself, is a crime.
Hell, even bomb-making handbooks have been judged protected speech!

12. Do you know that all of the hubub the media is creating pushed it to the top 100?

Yesterday AM it was ~151,000 on the kindle bestsellers list. Last I heard, it was 80.

Like I said, Amazon is not responsible for protecting the public from offensive content. Amazon/Kindle sells books that are deeply offensive to many (e.g., The Koran, Mein Kampf, Tori Spelling's memoir, etc.) Why should they serve as the moral authority and censor content. How about just not buying it and stop giving it free infomercials?

There must have been a lot of research involved in making this book. I hope it catches up to him.

Understanding Loved Boys and Boylovers

Amazon.com Review
Is there such a thing as a legitimate sexual relationship between an adult male and an underage boy? Most civilized people would answer emphatically "no," and Understanding Loved Boys and Boylovers won't convince them otherwise. Defensive in tone and amateurishly produced, this monograph uses both pseudo-scholarship and anecdotes in its attempt to justify its target audience's actions and feelings. --Christopher Hart

More on the Sick Author on Edit-
David Lee Riegel uses his real name in most of his online dealings, but sometimes uses the alias Veridicus to post on news articles, when he's involved with the activities of BoyLove Media Watch. He has also used the nick "Researcher" to complain at BoyChat about BoyLinks not being up, as he claimed he needed that for his "research."

He is an author on the subject of pedophilia, and has been involved in many online pedophile organizations, including Safe Haven, Free Spirits Coalition.

He seems to believe his ideals about "boylove" are superior to the rest of the pedophile community, and has specifically said that he does not condone their organizations or activities. However, when reading his writings, it is hard to distinguish his thoughts from those of other pedophile activists. The goal is the same: to use pedospeak and propaganda to try to make pedophilia more acceptable, and to discuss ways to change the laws so that he can legally have sex with children.

His "studies" are pseudo-scientific in nature, and are very thinly veiled attempts at trying to "prove" that sex between adults and children is not harmful.
