Something kinda of cool!
Edited on Wed Nov-10-10 06:32 PM by FrenchieCat
I just saw someone walking past the window of my home office,
in a full Burka.

I live in Northern California; on one of possibly the most multi cultural streets
that I can think of. My neighbors are from just about everywhere!

I may just take a survey in the next few weeks by going door to door, to see just how
diverse it truly is.

1. That is interesting...
But somehow it makes me feel a little sad that a woman has to wear a Burka (which I see as a symbol of male dominance) here in California...

I do applaud cultural diversity, still...

Have fun doing your survey!

:hi:

2. Maybe she wanted to wear it. One day, there must have been a party.....
cause I saw three women with full Burkas on...Black ones at that. I live at a dead end street where parking is hard to find, and so oftentimes, folks park past my house, and then walk back to the house where they are going.

3. I walk past an elementary school on my way to work...
and see women of every imaginable type walking their kids to school (when I leave home on-time! :) ) and occasionally I see a woman in a burka walking her child, along side other women who aren't wearing them.

Is she forced? I have no freakin clue, but there is perhaps more cultural diversity in those few blocks than anywhere else in the city.

4. Are you sure it was a burka?
THe usually blue garment with mesh over the eyes worn in Afghanistan? I'm just curious because I so often see the term "burka" (incorrectly) applied to other islamic garments.

6. Let's just say that this person was covered from head to toe......
but the garment looked black from my window, not blue.

Whomever it was will be passing by again, I presume,
to fetch their car that must be parked past my house
(as I live 4 doors down from the end of a dead-end street).

7. See if your survey turns up someone earning over $250,000/yr.
Now that would be diversity.

You could ask them if they think an increase of 4% in their marginal tax rate will keep them from hiring some more help.

8. This area is diverse in terms of income too......
As I live in an area, where there are apartments as well as 4,500 Sq ft houses! However, I don't believe that I will be asking folks how much they earn. That's not what friendly neighbors do, last I checked! :)

9. I see a woman like that just about everytime I go to Wal-Mart in Alabama
And I never really experienced a positive feeling about it.
