Use Citizens United to our advantage...........
I posted this thought in another thread but thought it deserved a thread of its own. Citizens United will still be with us in two years........Sooooo...... Appoint someone like Grayson to a fundraising position; have him travel the globe and get money, from whoever wants to give..... Do it it the open. Invite the cameras and reporters. You want global capital deciding our domestic elections, then game on... For every country that is donating to the GOP, there is a rival that will donate to us. Only thing, we will do different is disclose, unless the donor wants anonymity...... We play out cards right, we will get the house back, change the senate rules, and Citizens united will be emasculated by '13. Thoughts?

1. "...whoever wants to give..."

That, right there in that sentence, is the big, farting elephant in the room and precisely why CU is a hideous idea.

What makes you think big money buys just ONE favor?

2. He could set up a corporation

that collects *individual* donations from all over the world.

I'm sure there would be several billion people willing to donate to keep the Repubs out of power.

On edit: But it's also possible that many Indian and Chinese people would donate to the equivalent Repub corporation because they encourage outsourcing.

3. A lot of Europeans would donate $1 each to crush Republicans. This could work
and would make for a funny documentary. Something like Jay Leno walking the streets.

4. The Citizens United scheme works only for those rich individuals
who are interested in effectively taking over the government so that they can loot the treasury. I don't think it will work for honest, patriotic Americans.

5. Semi-true
CU is meant to work in one direction--against the people, but it can be turned on its head. We need to think outside the box. Doing nothing is a recipe for disaster.

6. Maybe it just "sticks in my craw" that while both sides are spending
obscene amounts of money buying votes, the media just gets richer. Further, I hate to base my political strategy on the premise that it all boils down to marketing. I still have what may be just a naive idea that real good work will be rewarded ultimately.

7. So basically, the plan is to sell out our principles even more than the Republicans do,
since that's what's necessary to secure the big-money donations the Republicans are getting.

8. what do you suggest.?
offer to play nice. As one other poster said, this is Thunderdome. We are in a caged fight to the death 2012 under the rules offered by Citizens United. Use it or die. Use it smartly, you win, change the senate rules, kill off CU and do real campaign finance reform--rammed down the throat of the GOP.
