On that missile contrail
look folks, that was a BIG rocket... so that leaves out hobbyists.

The fact that the Navy don't have no clue, or for that matter DOD... no, it wasn't accidental...

So we must ask... WHO? And chiefly WHY?

I know that these are not comfortable questions... and yes it looked like an ICBM... but hell, we will have to wait for a good explanation, or at least one that DOD can pass.

Oh and yes, IT IS a UFO... in all the technical definition... but for some silly reason I will discount the little green men from Gliese 598 or Alpha Centauri... it was very MUCH of Terran origin.

2. Whatever became of it?
The one or two articles I read, earlier this morning, made no mention of where the missile actually ended up. Did it fall into the ocean?

3. China
They are known to be working on their own ICBM, and if you want to make a statement you do it in your targets back yard.

Firing away from the US gets our attention without being a direct threat.

8. No one, including China, can launch an ICBM from the ocean.
A SLBM, sure. But China would be *insane* to do this so close to the US mainland.

My money is on "top secret Navy missile test." Read their "we don't know" as "we know but we can't tell you right now."

No mystery.

10. Wonder if it was from one of the Chinese subs that's almost impossible to track.
Here's the story I remember about one of them:

"American military chiefs have been left dumbstruck by an undetected Chinese submarine popping up at the heart of a recent Pacific exercise and close to the vast U.S.S. Kitty Hawk - a 1,000ft supercarrier with 4,500 personnel on board.
By the time it surfaced the 160ft Song Class diesel-electric attack submarine is understood to have sailed within viable range for launching torpedoes or missiles at the carrier.
According to senior Nato officials the incident caused consternation in the U.S. Navy."

Just saying and it 'splain the pretty non-chalant attitude at DOD.

23. I am going to say it wasn't a large rocket
This is pure guess and I have no credentials in this matter, but that said, let me open up my mouth...

By the video it seems like it was sundown. I'm going to say the sun behind the rocket exaggerates the size of the plume. Also, ever notice how the moon looks really large when it is rising, especially at about this time of day?

So, my guess is this was a hobbyist or small bore targeting drone.

There, I said it.

My hint are two fold though that this ain't a hobbyist.

It came from the Catalina range, looks like...

We used to see stuff like this frequently in SoCal from launches out of the silos at Vandenberg AFB. Sunset made them seem huge, very colorful, etc.
