Why Is Obama Cuddling Up to Karl Rove and His Gas Drilling Friends?
http://www.alternet.org/story/148762/

"In the days following Tuesday's election, President Obama's first peace offering to hardliners across the aisle was telling: "We've got, I think, broad agreement that we've got terrific natural gas resources in this country," he said. At the same time he was giving the thumbs-up for natural gas drilling, Karl Rove was doing the same, appearing as the keynote speaker at Pittsburgh's David Lawrence Convention Center for the DUG (Developing Unconventional Gas) East Coast conference on hydraulic fracturing for natural gas in the Marcellus Shale."

<snip>

"Local farmers Ron Gullah and Stephen Cleghhorn spoke poignantly of their land being destroyed by water contaminated from fracking. "This is a revolution!" said Loretta Weir, a Pittsburgh resident, and necessary because the gas companies operate "outside the law." Gloria Forouzan, a Marcellus Protester organizer, told AlterNet she was sure a mass movement was in the making. Every day she has been getting calls from people across the country. On Wednesday Wilkes-Barre ran its own protest, and people on the street who had never heard of fracking promised to travel out to Luzerne Community College to see a free showing of the documentary Gasland. Residents of Little Rock and Dallas held their own protests, too, on November 3 and in Cherry Valley, NY a protest will be held on Nov 11. "People are taking heart in what others are doing," Forouzan said." more at link

It's the water people, it's our lives here...and it's all for profit that they are pushing this, we aren't lacking in gas now...

I'm stressed like you...but sheesh...you are everywhere. Sometimes it's good to take a break from this place. Many of us have had to do it to restore our "perspective."

Just saying.. It's "TOO MUCH" all your "UnRec's" that you post about doing. OTT...:-(

Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 09:04 PM by jefferson_dem
I'm sorry. I didn't realize folks around here were that easy. Here's all the author (hyperbolist) attributes to Obama: "We've got, I think, broad agreement that we've got terrific natural gas resources in this country." The rest is baseless, inflamatory conjecture. From the above quote, do you honestly take the mammoth leap to "Obama Cuddling Up to Karl Rove and His Gas Drilling Friends?" That's not even a thin reed. Sorry.

28. I watch the Financial News and read their Reports...NAT GAS is set to Take Off
Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 09:30 PM by KoKo
because Obama isn't going to be able to get his "Green Energy" Programs through Congress with the New Regime..he's going to be pressured to use "Nat Gas" as the "Alternative Energy" source in the INTERIM...and that means the SHALE GAS DRILLERS...will have his ear.

If you don't think Obama is listening to Karl Rove (for his expert opinion) then you aren't aware that Clinton picked "Toe Sucking Repug, Dick Morris" after he lost Congress and Senate in '04 to Redirect his Adminstration and Morris Happily Obliged with TRIANGULATION and in his Second Term gave De-Regulation Away to Wall Street and De Reg of Telecom to the Repugs. Dick Morris...and now Karl Rove.

Obama believes in listening to Everyone who HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL! (even if their SUCCESS caused CRISIS} EXAMPLE: His Picks for Cabinet and Financial before and shortly after his Inauguration.

25. UNSUBSTANTIATED? Have you studied the hydraulic fracturing debate?
Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 09:25 PM by maryf
For any one to encourage the use of a process that could endanger the water source for millions (without hyperbole) of people, I say that is bad policy. They want to hydrofrack along the Delaware, that extends to the Chesapeke...15,000,000 people could be poisoned...Wow...please read up on this stuff...the Gulf was bad, this is at least equally so...without hyperbole.

Watch Gasland, it is not hyperbolic in the least (the hype might be), much less so than any Michael Moore movie (and I love MM).

And, on edit, did you read the hyperlink from "he said" in the article? They are there for a reason, it leads one to this:

42. I think Obama looks for "Experts in the Field" because of his background.
He believes those "At the Top of their Game" are the people he needs to get advice from...because THEY MADE IT...and most have some degrees from Top Business Schools and are very successful...in the "past years." What worries me is that Obama listens to those who've just about cracked up the US...and just because they have pedigree's, money, success and maybe a Ph.D or Business Degree from top School....he feels he's getting "Blue Ribbon Advice."

Think about that. I don't know if he's doing the wrong approach...but I don't trust putting the Chief Foxes in charge of the Hen House Once Again! Even if they are the "Chief Foxes" and not low level WalMart employee Foxes..... :-( (Actually the "low level foxes" might have learned their lessons...but not their MASTER FOXES who got away with it all)

48. I know...
Back during the 2008 Primaries, a movement here at DU said that any topic/article/whatever that was unflattering to then Sen. Obama would be responded to with "Let it Sink". No responses to the OP means it goes away and most DUers probably would never see it.

That's all.
