SEATTLE’S KVI RADIO THROWS IN TOWEL ON CONSERVATIVE TALK
Will switch format to Rock Oldies
November 02, 2010

(SEATTLE, WA) -- The bloom is off the rose for conservative talk radio in some markets around the country and a landmark station in that format in Seattle has joined the ranks of others who have decided to move on – and not in the vein of moveon.org, format wise.

KVI-AM radio - after some 15 years in the conservative talk format and being the legacy station that launched that format for the first time in Seattle – is leaving the format to go to Rock Oldies, according to Fisher Communications, which owns the station. / snip

Leaving the KVI airwaves along with the talk format will be recently-re-hired morning personality Bryan Suits and syndicated talk hosts Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, George Noory, and Dennis Miller.

KVI has been suffering from falling ratings for some time. One local radio blogger once quipped, “KVI has roughly the same number of listeners as your average Bearcat Police Scanner…no business can bleed indefinitely.”

8. Lot's of 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Barracuda'.
Most likely.

Interesting that a lot of blue collar redneck right wingers listen to old hippie music all day long. Cracks me up. :smoke:

I'm not putting down Zep or Heart either. I just saw Heart in a small venue, and they were fucking awesome!

I used to listen to it too until the company blocked internet radio to save bandwidth.

6. There's More On The Way
Both the format and the audience are dying along with the corporates who ran this industry into bankruptcy. Consider this a fall-our of the elections...while television made big coin from the GOTB moneymen, radio got crumbs (why buy something you already own??). Other stations (particuarly AM) have seen their ratings and revenues go south in recent years and the corporates can no longer subsidize these weak sisters. While we won't see stations going to Progressive talk (they're not doing much better), you'll see more companies either turning away from the hate talkers who drove away advertisers and listeners or off the air altogether.

11. Please, God, let Dori Monson be next
I never thought I'd wish anyone out of work, but Dori? Oh, yeah.

He's more odious than Limbaugh, and that's quite an achievement...

13. 1090, progressive AM is doing fine however
I listen to it on the way home from work every morning.

Seattle doesn't suffer its fools gladly and being a liberal bastion means that the conservatives need to pull back to the rest of the state. Sadly, much like my old home of Austin, TX, Seattle is an island of blue in a sea of red.

14. Awesome! Hope this trend persists so that Progressives will dominate ALL...
media: TV (right now we've got everything but Fox News), newspapers (all but The WSJ), magazines, etc.

Might talk radio be next...???

Don't touch that dial!!!

My friend, politics flows downstream from culture and always has. Believe me, you WANT us controlling the airwaves and print media.

...Don't you?

All WE have is MSNBC and various webcasts and progressive radio shows?? I may not be getting what you're saying, so feel free to enlighten me. :7

28. Thanks, gateley! Happy to be here! According to Editor & Publisher magazine...
Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 10:59 PM by alanquatermass
-- as of November 3, 2008, there were 273 newspapers endorsing Barack Obama compared to 172 for John McCain. By comparison, the magazine reported that before election day in 2004, John Kerry received 213 endorsements compared to 205 for George W. Bush.

Here is a quick link to what I am talking about, which shows we actually DO have the support (overall) of most journalists.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newspaper_endorsements_in_the_United_States_presidential_election,_2008

Just take 17 seconds and look over this table. 17 seconds, that's all.

As you can see, most major newspapers came out and supported Obama in 2008. If the media was conservative (and thank Christ they're not, or we'd be losing even more of the General Public than we already have) than how do we account for these endorsements?

And why did they support Kerry in 2004?

And Gore in 2000?

...Why didn't they support the Rethugs?

24. If TV media has a liberal bias, how come I don't see liberals on it?
Ever see Amy Goodman on the Sunday news shows? Of course not.

Nice try, but a premature de-cloak.

Let them know we're paying attention when they move in the right direction.

Fisher Communications email address: info@fsci.com

I just emailed them to let them know we'll be adding KVI to our presets for the 1st time.

23. A small victory, to be sure..... but
In a place like Seattle, one would expect to see less interest in right wing red-meat radio, so the loss of it is not as impactful as would be the capitulation of such stations in say, Memphis, Atlanta, Charleston, Cheyenne, etc.

Here's hoping it's a trend.

26. Agree, but I'm amazed at how many conservative stations there ARE
here. (And disturbed -- this is not MY Seattle, damn it!)

Whatever radio station carries Limbaugh and Beck is still going strong. The article gave Limbaugh's numbers (I think Beck's, too) and it's no wonder this country is becoming so disjointed.
