Oklahoma may have banned Ten Commandments along with Sharia law
Residents in Oklahoma thought they were voting to ban Sharia law last Tuesday but it turns out that the new constitutional amendment may also extend to the Ten Commandments.

The Oklahoma ballot measure orders judges not to consider Islamic or international law when deciding cases.

But Rick Tepker, a law professor at the University of Oklahoma School of Law believes the "Save Our State" constitutional amendment may have the unwanted side effect of preventing judges from referencing the Ten Commandments. Tepker called the measure "a mess."

"Many of us who understand the law are scratching our heads this morning, laughing so we don't cry," he told CNN. "I would like to see Oklahoma politicians explain if this means that the courts can no longer consider the Ten Commandments. Isn’t that a precept of another culture and another nation? The result of this is that judges aren’t going to know when and how they can look at sources of American law that were international law in origin."

Prior to the amendment passing, Tepker explained to a panel at Oklahoma University that the ballot measure could disrupt Oklahoma commercial contracts.

1. Stupid is as stupid does.
Given that these idiots never think things through, what other possible outcome could there be.

No longer? Were they considering the Ten Commandments before?

25. It seems likely to me that the sort of people who ...
... would seek to ban Sharia law in Oklahoma would not know what the Magna Carta is.

Any understanding of history or law would have convinced them that this "law" is completely senseless.

I wonder what the exact wording of the bill is. Other cultures and nations? Isn't our entire system of laws in this country based on precepts that originated elsewhere?

37. I am one of the 30 % that voted no
anyway, here's the wording................

This measure amends the State Constitution. It changes a section that deals with the courts of this state. It would amend Article 7, Section 1. It makes courts rely on federal and state law when deciding cases. It forbids courts from considering or using international law. It forbids courts from considering or using Sharia Law.

International law is also known as the law of nations. It deals with the conduct of international organizations and independent nations, such as countries, states and tribes. It deals with their relationship with each other. It also deals with some of their relationships with persons.

The law of nations is formed by the general assent of civilized nations. Sources of international law also include international agreements, as well as treaties.

Sharia Law is Islamic law. It is based on two principal sources, the Koran and the teaching of Mohammed.

Shall the proposal be approved?

For the proposal

Yes: __________

Against the proposal

No: __________

It also accepts the Christian bible, Old Testament and New, as historical truth.

23. They screwed themselves without any lubricant!!!!
I read the actual amendment to the OK Constitution and I think a very strong case can be made that there can be no consideration of any "moral" law including the Bible and the 10 Commandments. It says that only the federal and OK constitutions along with respective federal and state laws can be used.

39. Ten Commandment Monument to be installed on state ground
The legislature voted to put a Ten Commandment Monument on state grounds. They must have known ahead of time that it would be challenged because they built a defense fund into the bill.

With this SQ I wonder if it will be able to keep the monument off of state property. ROFLMAO!

While there are a lot of nice people in Oklahoma they just are rational when it comes to politics and religion. It is like living the the Christian version of the Middle East. The only difference is that the religious hardliners wear cowboy boots and hats instead of a turban. :)
