2. The older I get
the more outspokenly liberal I become.

I'm 62 now. I will be uncontrollable at 92.

19. me too.
I used to be somewhat conservative, but it seems each passing year I get more and more liberal. God only knows how far left I'll be in 50 years.

27. Speaking for myself at my age,
I think an important component is that a post-menopausal woman essentially has nothing left to lose, and so she can be absolutely courageous about what she believes in.

About thirty years ago I recall reading accounts of Russian mothers whose sons were in the Soviet military, serving under genuine miserable conditions. I'd see stories of a mother going off to some military base somewhere, getting her son and taking him off base where he was being abused and starved (because apparently food supplies at far-flung Soviet bases were sufficiently unrealizable that it was the lowest of enlisted men who sometimes did not get fed)and on the way out would march up to the base commander and say basically, "I'm taking my Ivan out of here, and don't even bother to try to get him back."

At the time I could not understand why these women did that, how they dared defy the authority in that way, and then I had a couple of sons myself, they grew up, and I became a fearless warrior woman myself.

It doesn't matter if a woman had children or not, it's that stage in life.

Not to say that men and younger women aren't absolutely crucial.

17. Same here..
I am the only liberal in my entire family.. Most of my family are die-hard conservatives, a few are moderate. I just don't understand how the conservatives in my family are so easily brainwashed. Almost makes me ashamed to be related to them.

Liberals are what keeps this country going forward. If not for liberals, the US would be stuck in an 1850s mindset. THANK GOD FOR LIBERALS! :toast:

DLC is attempting to co-opt the label of liberal, so the term is becoming meaningless.

28. You need an "other" category -
I am pro-labor and anti-capitalism. I suppose that puts me somewhere in the socialist/communist area. Sadly in this country labor is not being represented well, if at all.

29. I'm a proud liberal, and see no reason to start calling myself a "progressive"...
because the Right has succeeded in demonizing the world "liberal" in the eyes of many, if not most.

33. Too bad our "Democratic" leaders run from the word like the building's on fire
We needed another FDR, we got a limp noodle who changes position and caves to the right wing at the merest hint of their criticism.

"Oh, please, Mr. conservative, don't hurt me... I'll compromise every principle I should be standing up for. I'll reverse all positions I claimed to have during my campaign."

Limp noodles in the White House and the Senate will cost us our Democracy. Grow a pair and stand up for your principles -- or we will outsource YOUR job in 2012!.
