I want to take our country back
Back to a time when we didn't value the dollar so much. Back to a time when excess wasn't the standard. Back to a time when a community organizer was valued instead of ridiculed. Back to a time when education was of utmost importance in the household. Back to a time when neighbors looked out for one another. My brother calls me pie in the sky....maybe he is right, but I think this country needs a little more pie before we all starve.

1. I couldn't agree more, but...
As long as we have Fox news, Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, and all the others who spew hate on a daily basis over the air waves, it will never happen!

2. and as long as we don't demand these things
it will never happen. On a personal level I have begun to speak loudly about what really ails this nation...greed. I have gotten into quite a few arguments but I have to stand up for what I know is right. I have been calling out all the thugs in my life recently and I have even gotten a few to think about things instead of reacting to things.

3. I demand the return of the Fairness Doctrine
The abolition of FOX propaganda would also be nice.

6. I think we should have used their own lines against them from the start.
Let's face it....our message machine kinda sucks but our values are just.

9. Sorry but some good values were left in the past
and the ability to move forward requires the ability to look back.

10. As others have pointed out, there will be no change without media reclamation
We have "Talk Radio", which is basically Radio Rwanda, and Cable "News", which is run and staffed by people whose values are diametric opposites of yours.

"wanting" the way you do is a waste of time. Think hard about what it will take to get the airwaves away from Beck & Limpballs & Weiner

12. What about celebrity?
I mean actual celebrities..ones with star power....do you think they could take back the media? Celebrities sell and influence.

13. There aren't enough of them, and if they get too sassy
they'll be Obermann'd before you can say, "House Unamerican Activities Committee". Keep thinking - go outside of your comfort zone

11. I agree with your sentiment
but do want to take us forward... our country was founded as a forward moving country and the tea party's "I want to take my country back" is silly on so many levels.

I want to go forward to a time and place where corporations do not rule... we were not meant to be a corporatocracy and that is what we have become

14. I'd like to know when that was.

1760 to 1800 was a bunch uptight white guys that didn't want to pay their taxes in England, held slaves, and only wanted other white slave holding landholders to vote, creating the form of "democracy" that we sort of have; a corporate plutocracy where only the very wealthy have access to the people that make the actual decisions on laws, and who the armies are going to kill this week so that we can acquire the resources.
-
1800-1870 was the mass importation of slave labor into the south to monopolize the cotton trade, while child labor using sweatshops/union busting exploitation-driven mine owners ran the north. The civil war was mainly about was about which model of robber-baron exploitation of the masses would run the USA™ main economic engine.
-
(Overlap)1850-1900 War, Manifest destiny, and mass genocide of native tribes out west, herding the few survivors into reservations, because killing all of them was just going to be a little too costly.
-
1900-1945 War, stock market manipulation of wealth into the hands of the top 5 percent, depression, more war, and more stock market manipulation of wealth.
-
1945-1960, Prosperity! Yay USA™!! After nuking Japan, and helping Europe effectively destroy the manufacturing infrastructure of just about every major industrial player in the world...the USA™ is now the worlds manufacturer due to the fact that our infrastructure has remained untouched. Poor Robber-Barons have to actually pay people living wages for this time due to the fact that cheap, exploitable labor is busy rebuilding the bombed out husks of their former countries. Joe-mom and dad in middle America start to think their shit doesn't stink anymore, and that we as a country are now ordained by god to suck up most of the worlds resources and fuck everyone else.
-
1960-Present War, stock market manipulation of wealth into the hands of the top 5 percent, depression, economic collapse as manufacturing bases of the rest of the world are now viable competition, more war, more stock market manipulation of wealth into the hands of the top 5 percent, more depression, more economic collapse....

So...when was this magical mystery time of the USA™ you refer to again?

15. Sorry but I agree w your brother. There is no mechanism for "going back". The next steps can only
be worse. The more desperate we get the worse decisions we will make.
