Carribean view: Does Republican/Tea Party Take Over Of The House Mean Death To Immigration Reform?
http://www.caribbeanworldnews.com/home_top_stories.php?sid=2554&a=5&cut=301&ad=topstory

One of my worst fears was realized on the night of November 2nd as Democrats lost control of the Congress to extreme conservatives whose views on immigration and immigrants leave much to be desired. That fear was realized late last Tuesday night as the reports began piling in that Republicans, led chiefly by Tea Partyites, had taken control of the House. For me, the news was more as it meant for me death to immigration reform as we hoped.

We have to remain hopeful. The whole landscape has changed but let’s hear their options now. If not immigration reform then what? Enforce the borders but what of the people inside?

There are many Dems who were not supportive of immigration reform either. Now what we find is maybe a liberal democratic base now. Will they find common ground but blue dogs Dems are gone so that’s the positive.

It’s easy to oppose but what’s the alternative? I don’t think that republicans have any need for us. It will be ironic… this is when the rubber hits the road.
----------------------------
"Lets' hear their options now. ... Enforce the borders but what of the people inside?" - Caribbean people will find that the repub/tea party option will be "secure the border" and "attrition through enforcement" for the "people inside". This conveniently leaves millions easily exploitable by repub/tea party employers for years to come.

There may indeed be a "more liberal Democratic base now" with many anti-immigration Blue Dogs gone, but that won't do much to counter the repub/tea party majorities.

1. Real reform would mean ending the US Cuban Adjustment Act and "Wet Foot/Dry Foot" policies.
As it is now, any and all Cubans are welcomed to the US, NO MATTER THEIR CRIMINAL BACKGROUND, NO MATTER IF THEY HAVE FAILED A LEGAL US IMMIGRATION APPLICATION, if they make it to US shores, no matter how - they are granted instant entry, instant ICE processing, released onto the streets within 24 hours - plus perks available to no other immigrant ... a full plate of US taxpayer social support such as instant work visa, instant green card applicant status, instant S.S., instant Food Stamps, instant Sec 8 Housing, and more.

BTW, the US allots over 20,000 legal immigration visas to Cubans every year (more than any other nation). Not all are even applied for.
