The Today Show - all GOP, all the time
I've watched the Today Show every morning as I get ready for work, for over 20 years. Today I'm changing it to the food network. I would keep it there if they would be FAIR and give the democrats as much attention as they are giving to the GOP, however it is like I'm watching "Faux Lite" lately.

They just lost a long time viewer.

6. Excuses

Are their cottage industry. Palin peddled them, Angle did and ODonnell did.

Why the excuses?

They DO NOT, CAN NOT believe they were rejected, because A) They DO NOT, CAN NOT believe they are wrong about anything.

That is the scariest thing about the Republicans, the fact they simply believe they are right about anything. These are the same people pre-disposed to blind faith, which is a scary freaking thing. It means you can have an opinion or policy that is proven wrong, but if you 'believe' it is good policy then that evidence as it were can be discounted, because that evidence comes from a biased source.

7. Its like interviewing the loser of American Idol.

Like Tweety accused Michele Bachmann of being hypnotized - Americans have been hypnotized by the spectacle too.

15. And when the Republicans lost, they had them on then, too
Because it was just so sad to think of the Republicans being shut out of the national conversation just because they were in the minority. I don't think an entire week went by without some Republican loser being on a national program, and more like two or three, for their deathless opinions on current events. Palin, Gingrich, Armey, McCain, and all the rest in a never-ending parade. Now, they get to be on because some of them won.

It's revolting.

5. Keeping 'em dumb
The Today Show is emblematic of the dumbing down of America. Why shouldn't they celebrate that fact? It doesn't surprise me that O'Donnell was on - she's a celebrity after all. It's media like the Today Show that made her as such.
Frankly, I'm surprised she lost. There must still be signs of intelligent life in Delaware that haven't fallen for the lies yet.
I see that next week, one of the Today Show fools gets to "interview" disgraced former President G.W. Bush - all a part of the "Restore Idiocy" platform of the republicans.
Sad, sad state of affairs overall.
But I live in Florida, so I know all about stupid - this state just elected a delusional, possibly deranged person to the Senate (West), a fraud who made billions off unethical and possibly criminal behavior (Scott), and a clueless Tea-bagger demagogue who's major endorsement appeared to be from his parents (Rubio).
If ignorance is bliss, we're living in La-La Land now.

8. You just have to understand the "rules" of the New America, which is only a hollowed out shell
of a Representative Democracy, hiding within it the newest, most advanced form of totalitarianism and propaganda apparatus ever known to humankind.

The rules are easy:

1) If the Republicans win an election, it shows the American People have rejected the Democrats and therefore it is warranted that overwhelming numbers of Republicans be overrepresented, mirroring the just-won election.

2) If the Democrats win, Republicans need to be overrepresented because of the need to show the opposition's (really the corporation's) point of view.

Thus, as in all totalitarian societies extending back to antiquity (when they called themselves monarchists, dictators, and warlords), the opposition is constantly placed in a lose-lose situation until it is broken down and either dies or, in the more plausibly deniable versions such as ours, becomes essentially a subsidiary of Totalitarian Power.

I don't know how long you've been around DU, and how long or even if you have begun to notice that what is going on in the USA is far far FAR beyond a simple case of "politics-as-usual" but is a tectonic revolution, which over the long-term, is as powerful, sweeping, and authoritarian as the worst humankind has offered.

But take it from someone who saw it coming pretty definitively in early 2001, and who had been noticing the dots even though unable to connect them since the late 80s. I am not being hyperbolic (I wish I was).

If you are further interested in a deeper understanding of the mechanisms and marketing involved in selling totalitarianism to a nation with an anti-totalitarian founding mythos, which is what the Ruling Elite of the USA have done, I would suggest you start with David Brock's book, "Blinded by the Right" in order to understand the genesis of modern American Corporate Media/RW Lie Machine Fusion. Get it out of the library if you don't want to buy it.

http://www.amazon.com/Blinded-Right-Ex-Conservative-David-Brock/dp/0812930991

From there, you might want to learn about the term Gleichschaltung, performed with more physical brutality while the USA's version is being performed with cyber and economic brutality (marketing, marketing, marketing, what will push their product in Peoria- the virtual enslavement of people who's founding myth is that they will NEVER be slaves?).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gleichschaltung

Then maybe learn about Ed Bernays, the father of modern propaganda, and so admired by the Nazis that Josef Goebbels had the book, well read, sitting on his shelf. Bernays was a Jew, which means that Goebbels must have really really REALLY liked what he had to say.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Bernays

http://www.amazon.com/Propaganda-Edward-Bernays/dp/0970312598 (the book which both the Nazi Propaganda Ministry and the American PR industry have based themselves upon)

There's so much more to learn and understand after that, and there is a terrible double-edged sword involved. Once you understand these things, you will better know the world, and MUCH better able to see things coming before they happen. But to all around you, you will be a Crazy Cassandra, as ignored as the very very VERY few people who were running around in 1928 trying to warn the Germans about the Nazis.

Which reminds me of a last link for you. If you want to understand more about what the USA has been going through (albeit in a fresh newly rebranded and focus-grouped package) and likely will go through (at least on a psychological level, since Nazi level violence is not yet an option in the modern RW marketing scheme), read "Defying Hitler" by Sebastian Haffner. Pay special attention to his descriptions of the behaviors of the German Social Democratic Party and other opposition parties and tell me it doesn't bring a chill up your spine, it's so similar.

Read the arguments of Haffner with his workplace friends who turned Nazi before his eyes and tell me the stench of Hannity/Limbaugh/Beck does not flood your nostrils as you read.

http://www.amazon.com/Defying-Hitler-Memoir-Sebastian-Haffner/dp/0312421133

But in any case, beware. For once knowledge is attained you can't unlearn it, and there is no question that, as in all totalitarian nations since the dawn of history (which is almost all of them), it is a much happier life being ignorant of the larger picture than being the jerk who sees the Nazis for what they are well ahead of time, but is cursed by the fact that no one will listen because the plausible deniability of the propaganda is so great or the truth is so big and so painful that denial, one of the most powerful of human emotions, kicks in.

Funny - I was at Barnes & Noble tonight and I almost bought that book! I should have, but I got so disgusted by seeing nothing but GOP crap on every shelf in sight that I grabbed a romance novel and left. :/

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I may get this as an ebook and get to reading (after my brain candy historical romance novel that I need after this weeks political brutality .... :)

10. They lost two long-time viewers
I haven't watched all week, and I don't think I'll be going back any time soon. If I watch a morning "news" show, it will be the one on CBS from now on. Otherwise, since I don't have cable, it's PBS for me.

14. I did tell them
I wrote to them as soon as I posted this. So... today I have boycotted the Today show and MSNBC.

And I put a self-help cd in to listen to on the way to work. I'm actually a little happier tonight and believe it or not, more hopeful about the Democratic Party in 2012.

We asked for transparancy and we are getting it. We are getting to see the slugs under the rocks, the cockroaches hiding in the cracks. It's hard to see it but it may be necessary to get us back to a sane place in our country.

Thanks for everyone's responses, you all made me feel better.

12. I used to do likewise...
get dressed and ready for work with the TODAY show on as background, notably for breaks about local traffic and weather.

However, 9 months ago, I became so disgusted with TODAY's FAUX-like political coverage that has enabled Palin and her ilk, that I turned off the TV completely. Now I dress to classical music and get traffic and weather information from the radio.

I start the day with a sunnier disposition and a lower blood pressure.

Glad you turned them off. Guess we should all innundate them with emails and letters about our defection. :hi:

17. How about that Liberal media

I can't believe they can advance that canard anymore with a straight face.

This has become one of my biggest issues...propaganda.

Because NONE of our other issues work if we can't get objective information out to the public.

The Left in this nation is DEAD if we don't correct this.

Hell...

we need to start 'green washing' the media. Create a bunch of "the media is too Liberal..." groups, with the sole purpose of restricting media consolidation, the Fairness Doctrine, etc...under the guise that the media is left wing.
