19. Because they both are experts on strategy to win elections?
Russ Feingold is a statesman and a person who really did act as a representative to his state. I woul think something like a Supreme Court Justice or a Professor at a prestigious university. Do you think raising money would be something Feingold would enjoy doing?

As to Grayson - making outrageous comments will not do the serious work the DNC needs to do.

25. His brother Jim comes to mind. But let's try to avoid letting 'dynasties' develop.

7. No, I'd rather he was available just in case (as rumored) Herb Kohl doesn't run in '12
then Russ can jump into the race.

9. You know, I was hoping along those lines too.
Kohl has been there for a while, hasn't he?

Feingold would be the perfect choice.

8. What are the characteristics of an ideal chair?
From a party (not just progressive) perspective. My guess is being able to raise money is the biggest, which I'm assuming is a big reason Dean got it. Is Feingold known for that (it's not rhetorical, I don't know).

10. feingold was a great senator
but is not known as a great fundraiser.

feingold needs a cabinet post.

12. I'd prefer Feingold as a justice or in the cabinet somewhere
I think he's better suited to those roles and isn't necessarily aggressive enough for a DNC chair

13. He's a loner
and may not be too hot at administration. Can't see him even wanting to do something like that.

29. That COULD be a problem... but much of the establishment didn't like Dean either
and he was obviously successful!

23. Good point re: actually running things
but in terms of being a loner/outsider, Dean was arguably more of an outsider than is Feingold.

30. Like Les Aspin
Les Aspin was a super policy wonk on the House Armed Services Committee and knew defense policy backwards and forwards. As SecDef, he was completely out of his league.

I am afraid that would happen to Feingold if you put him in an executive position.

15. I liked Grayson's interview with Cenk today (MSNBC)
He said Democrats need to abandon their "strategy of appeasement" and that the Republican party was a party of ...One word...two letters...."NO"

(He has the fight in him that this party needs.)

22. Dean didn't exactly cruise to the Democratic nomination in 2004
Yet he was the best DNC chair we've had in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time.

Yeah, different office, different year, but still.

26. Was he the best? Or was he simply in the right place at the right time?
It's easy to win seats in Congress when the White House is controlled by an unpopular President of the other party.

Unless you think Michael Steele is some kind of political genius.

27. Not just anyone would've implemented a 50-State Strategy
Edited on Fri Nov-05-10 02:14 PM by UrbScotty
We picked up more seats than we would have without it.

Beyond that, he actually listened to people. Mark Brewer, the chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, said that all the state Party chairs admired him because he was so atypical of most DNC chairs - in a good way.

Her tenure as Governor will soon be over and the Dems have got to do something about their "female PROBLEM".

Or some other cabinet post.

If not now, then after Obama is re-elected. Cabinet shuffles often take place after a President is re-elected.

Actually, before McAuliffe, many of them quit after just a year or two.
