India IT firms say US rejecting business visas

The US is rejecting a growing number of Indian visa applications and interviews border on interrogations, Indian information technology firms say.

Nasscom, an umbrella organisation of IT firms, said it had written to the US ambassador to convey its concern.

India's government has also been informed, it said. There was no immediate response from the US embassy.

President Barack Obama begins a three-day India visit on Saturday. It is not known if the issue will come up then.

"Nasscom... said it had received complaints from member-companies and had taken up the issue 'appropriately' with the US embassy in New Delhi," the Times of India newspaper reported.

2. "In-sourcing" is almost as "bad" as outsourcing.
Bringing in foreign workers who will work here for less, does not help the employment issues of the many underemployed , capable people here.

I know that many young IT workers in India, would love to come her and are willing to work for less, but as long as there are unemployed IT people here, the US citizens should at least have first-dibs on the jobs..

4. Doing the right thing for the wrong reason, probably
Dept of Homeland Paranoia screening for Pakistani/Muslin terrorist sleepers in South Asian IT workers.

Life will get worse and worse for all of us until we stop trying to occupy half the Muslim world.

5. Probably because all the IT jobs are already filled by Indian workers.
My friends works for a huge corporation and his IT team of 16 is now comprised of himself and the 15 Indian workers that his former coworkers trained before they were thrown out on the street.

He is now forced to work 70 hour weeks on call 24/7.

7. Long overdue
They are not entitled to steal our jobs.

My husband is an IT professional who has watched many of his friends and colleagues lose their jobs and get replaced by lower-paid IT workers on H1-B visas. In recent years, he has usually been on of the few non-Indians in the places he has worked.

Now they are getting into IT recruiting, according to someone else I know who is in IT. This person says he gets calls from headhunters who barely speak English and pronounce Oracle "o RAH kul."
