Sen. Patty Murray extended her lead over Dino Rossi Wednesday as she continued to outperform her Republican rival in voter-rich King County.

The incumbent's advantage was just under 25,000 votes out of about 1.58 million counted after King and other locations posted results of an afternoon tally. As of early Wednesday morning, Murray's statewide lead had been 14,005 votes out of 1,430,787.

In King County, Murray's advantage over Rossi was 88,751 votes after Tuesday's first check. As of Wednesday afternoon, it was 105,639 - a pickup of 16,888 votes.

Election officials had figured that about 2.4 million votes would be cast, but that was an estimate.

if he is all of a sudden in the lead. Instead, her margin of victory increased in King County and he is underperforming in his counties. Should not be long now before she can claim victory.

Nice tidbits from the Seattle Times:

Murray is benefitting from a 71 percent voter turnout in King County, a record for a midterm election. King County Elections had predicted 68 percent turnout, which would equate to about 720,000 votes, but the county now has 762,000 ballots on hand as votes poured in through the mail today. In vote counts released this afternoon, Murray's lead in King County grew to 105,639 votes, and the spread widened 62.6 percent to Rossi's 37.4 percent. King County still has about 345,000 votes to count, and will be releasing results of an addition 65,000 ballots on Thursday, said King County Elections director Sherril Huff.

The King County trend that bodes poorly for Rossi. He took 40 percent of the King County vote in his 2004 virtual tie with Gov. Chris Gregoire.

8. As always you are correct
If he could not pull off a mega win in Mason county then he is done for. Now it is time to prepare for his run in 2012. As previously discussed we all know he will run again. Maybe next time he will lose by a wider margin and just go away. Not holding my breath though. GO PATTY!

11. Yes, Spokane is his "biggie," but even here he is getting just 56% which
Murray easily neutralizes by an almost equally populous Thurston (also 56%), so her King County totals are just pure gold.
