I'm actually not as depressed or beaten down as I thought I was going to be.
And it's not just because I live in New York, which kicked its bagger in chief's sorry ass last night. I think the Republican House will be short-lived. All signs point to their not having learned a single lesson from 1994, let alone from 2006 or 2008. That's because they are basically a two-trick pony: pseudo-austeritarians and hardline party people. They are beholden to both the big money interests, which most people loath, and to the constipated social conservatives, who wear our their welcome quickly.

They're going to make the gridlock worse, not better. They're going to threaten social security again. They're going to show their ugly face over and over (they never learn to hide it). In short, I think they're doomed. I think they're vulnerable, and I think they're going to get punished for being the Republicans they are in 2012. Revenge, I have a feeling, will be sweet.

1. That's the same way I feel as well ...
It's gonna take a real showing of the "ugly Underneath" that'll hopefully smack these people back to sanity.

And it's not just because I live in Massachusetts, where we kept the Governorship and the congressional delegation all stayed blue.

4. I'm trying not to think about that or about Orlando.
Those losses hurt. Those guys need to be given work for the party or the cause, in any case, nationally. We can't lose them.

I did lose sleep last night thinking about Russ Feingold and Alan Grayson.

That is provided the Dems show some spine. Not the end of the world.

6. Take solace in the fact that things are going to get much, much worse for the forseeable future.
Maybe, just maybe, things will get bad enough that enough people will recognize that America's time is over.

The half-assed "reform" foisted on us by this administration only delayed the inevitable demise - with the bonus of killing any possibility that the Democratic party is the vehicle for needed progress. Only when everything is torn down can it be replaced with something positive.

7. i agree, we're not facing any scandals at the moment,
for the repugs to make any gains they have to show that things will get better. unfortunate for them the dems have the white house and the senate so that will make us look good also. the only way for them to get the white house is for things to get worse.

8. I wish I shared your optimism. But if two things don't happen, it will only get worse.
1) The Citizens United SCOTUS decision gets reversed (unlikely) and

2) The Holt bill (to ban unverifiable voting equipment in elections) gets passed (Impossible).

Now it's time to go cut more firewood. It is going to be a cold winter, in more ways than one.
