Sorry, Jon Stewart, but I gave the finger to the Republican trying to foist his R trash on me at my
voting place today. Admittedly, I'm no role model. My husband wished I hadn't, partly because he knows the guy, and partly because he thought I had risked being arrested and not allowed to vote, which I said was ridiculous until remembering how the Teaper candidates and surrogates have recently treated opponents. (On the other hand, my mom thinks it's funny I did it. Go figure, although she does pretty much despise the Teapers.)

I'm not exactly the most laid back person anyway when stressed, but with the increased thuggery and Orwelliana of the right lately, I've been literally (and I mean that literally) screaming at the Teapers on the Tooob. So I really wanted to avoid standing in line for hours listening to ignorant Rs like I had to in 08. I convinced hubby to go with me at around 1pm, thinking it wouldn't be crowded then, which it wasn't.

We approached the entrance from the right and so passed first by the local Dems' set-up. They offered us lit for a local dem we were already supporting. Hubby took it, but I refused, saying I was voting for him but that I didn't need the paper.

Rounding the corner, we had to pass very closely by the R tent on our left as we entered the short run of sidewalk approaching the entrance. I had already seen their HUMONGOUS sign with the usual Teaper BS, (paraphrasing), "Are you fed up like we are?! Vote straight Republican and SAVE our country!!!" That had already got my blood boiling. Again, sorry Jon Stewart, but these lying, bully bastards do not exactly inspire choruses of Kumbaya in part harmony in me, but I was planning to just ignore.

However, when the dude hovering over the path tried to shove some Teaper propaganda in my face. I couldn't even look at him, but involuntarily made a sound of disgust as I refused the trash and continued by. He yelled to me, with a derisive snicker, "So, you like things the way they are?" (I didn't exactly hear him, but hubby told me later that's what he'd said.)

I looked back over my shoulder and gave a thumbs down, meaning that's how I felt about him and his party and his yelling at me. But he and one of his buddies were loudly laughing at me, like I was the funniest damn thing they'd ever seen. I didn't see what was so effing funny, so, I turned my fist up and around, tucked in my thumb, and saluted them with the middle digit over my shoulder as I turned my head back toward the door and continued in to the building.

Now, I've had a stomach virus for almost a week now, haven't had much sleep, and am not taking my Cymbalta because I'm in the donut hole and can't afford it, so it wouldn't have taken much to freak me out anyway. However, I really think they needed to leave me the fuck alone. And I have always thought that the campaigners are allowed way too close to the entrance of my voting station. I don't care which party they're from.

Of course, I'm not saying my reaction was rational or my finest moment. In hindsight, I wish I'd done something a little more civil. I've thought about it a lot today, and think I've learned and important lesson.

In the future, I'm going to stop and politely accept the RW flyer. I'm going to stand right there and calmly look it over for a moment or two. Then I'm going to rip into quarters and hand it back before I turn and walk away.

17. I wish you were right. It always seems like however awful the Rs are, they always manage to
gain control with the same old dirty tricks. I knew the we'd always have some greedy, bigoted bullies out there trying to control things, but I was actually quite hopeful when Obama won that more and more Americans were rejecting that type of politician and those sort of politics. It's depressing to see the resurgence of the Rs by any other name.

21. Awww. really? I have to admit that even when I'm annoyed with him and determined to punish him by
withholding my laughter/approval, he manages to bypass my defenses. Bastard!

But, in general, I'm less amused by him than I used to be.

Colbert, on the other hand, I find to be superbly entertaining almost all of the time. I always root for him to beat out Jonny on Emmy night.

19. Woot! Lol! Actually, Stewart cracks me up most of the time, but I don't care for his recent bad habi...
of perpetuating the myth of equivalence between MSNBC and Fox Noose. Jonathon Alter and Keith did a good job of myth-busting about that last night on Countdown. http://www.mediaite.com/tv/olbermann-tackles-false-equivalency-between-msnbc-and-fox-defying-jon-stewart/

In an earlier post on this I was accused of thinking that "our side" was perfect and never deserved criticism because I said I thought Stewart "tried too hard" to find things to criticize the left about. Maybe Alter does a better job of expressing my point than I did.

22. I know! I later thought, "Most everything I'm not happy with is thanks to you and the wrecking crew
called the Republican party!" But I never think of what to say until it's too late. One of these days...

You did the right thing. They're bullies. Once they badgered you verbally, they needed an equal response.

9. I dont think it was a bad reply to the taunt
"So you like things the way they are?" You didn't have time for the long version. Short & sweet. And you were putting it in terms even a Repig can understand.

Nobody in my precinct would get by with yelling stuff like that. The school marms would be all over him & he'd be leaving shortly. Totally inappropriate.

 Don't beat up on yourself, lib.

24. "And you were putting it in terms even a Repig can understand." Lol! What makes it worse is that,
according to my husband, the guy is actually the chairman of our township board of supervisors. You'd think he'd know better.

I was more emotional at the time, but I'm more convinced now that his behavior was, as you said, inappropriate. Surprise, an RW politician behaving inappropriately.

Speaking of the devil--I just heard my new (PA) governor is Republicon Tom Corbrtt.

"Pennsylvania is expected to lose a congressional seat after the 2010 U.S. Census and Corbett's victory will give Republicans an important seat at the table when the state legislature redraws is electoral boundaries."

Sunnuvabitch!

Sestak with a tiny lead though...Hold on Joe!

16. GOOD FOR YOU! Screw Jon Stewart
It's going to take people getting fed up and mad as hell, for crying out loud. Since when did progress ever come from behaving like docile, obedient serfs and never putting a toe out of line?

But cynic that I am, I think that was the real point of Jon Stewart's corporate media event - don't become unmanageable and cause problems for TPTB.

Cheers to YOU! (and hope you feel better soon)

26. Hee! Thank you! I agree, although I don't think Stewart is knowingly a shill for our corporate
masters, but I think he may be unknowingly aiding and abetting them. He may very well be in danger of being co-opted by them. Glenn Beckk is even praising him. That would set off an alarm in my book!
