Thirty Feet.
I want everyone to think about what thirty feet is. A parking space is designed to fit a sedan or other long vehicle, so it's about 15ft long, maybe a little longer. You take that and the space for cars to drive through a one-way parking lot, and you have thirty feet.

Thirty feet from the door is all you need to be within Alabama law on electioneering. If there's only one door, you can simply have the other 3 corners of the parking lot.

Who was making sure they got every inch of that 30 feet from the door? Folks campaigning for Teabagger David Walter, who's running for the House.

I gave them the finger on my way out of there. Was it childish? Sure. But that's free speech, baby, and I was livid.

What good is having laws on passive electioneering when they, in practice, only ban waving signs and handing out buttons in the doorway of the polling place?

1. I posted a similar concern in the Illinois forum.
Turns out the folks I saw were within the law because the ROOM in the building where the machines were was deep inside, making the electioneers on the walkway leading in legal.

3. When I was an election judge in TX they could not get within 100 feet of the entrance to the polling
place. I measured and placed the signs myself

2. Wow only 30 feet?
I read the sign outside my voting area and it was 200 feet. Of course I don't know if these are state mandated or township but my tiny area was packed with voters, no one else around, everyone not using the Diebold machine by choice. LOL.
