Note to Jon:
Fox News lies. Rush lies. O'Reilly lies. Bush lies. Cheney lies. Hannity lies.

Olbermann doesn't lie. Maddow doesn't lie. Obama doesn't lie. Hartmann doesn't lie.

Do you see a difference here? You should.

5. He dared express a legitimate critique of some liberal heroes.
A critique that even Olbermann agreed with on some level, having suspended the "Worst Persons" bit.

11. Stewart had an opinion. Many agree with him.
Even Olbermann saw his point.

If the "low road" involves requesting people keep quiet about their opinions, I'm not interested. That kind of mindset may win an election or two, but it will lose us what "America" should stand for.

13. Yeah, keep quiet about your opinion that Cheney lined his pockets by
sending other peoples' kids to be killed and maimed. Be quiet about your opinion that we should socialize health care insurance so that it would cost less and be available for everyone. Be quiet about Wall Street stealing money. Be quiet with your opinion that the teabaggers lie and that they are manipulated by the Koch brothers. I guess, in your opinion, America stands for keeping quiet about your opinions.

Have you ever read "Night" by Elie Wiesel?

I don't get the point of your post.

18. It was a little more than that
Edited on Tue Nov-02-10 12:20 PM by CommonSensePLZ
Myself and others think he was shown too negatively, right up with Glenn Beck. It seems to me that Jon was more concerned with pleasant tones than honest messages and casted Olbermann as an propagandist, and we disagree with that is all.

He is like a slightly funnier Dennis Miller. Why take him seriously?

2. I think that "noise" rather than "truthiness" was what he was critiquing.
Olbermann and Schultz do contribute to the noise.

And I don't recall seeing Maddow or Hartmann in the clip.

24. The OP includes Maddow and Hartmann falsely
And like the complainers the OP leaves out Colbert entirely, and the fact that the 'rally' was two rallies, with a comic voice from each 'side'. The dual views of the two comics were included in the montage. But note the truthiness required to frame it as they wish. Minus Colbert, plus Maddow and Hartmann. Such honesty!

10. Marshall McLuhan, rescue us!
"The medium is the message."

As often as not it ISN'T the content that counts. Hasn't it been established that large segments of the hysterical right ignores facts in general? So in that context an angry, shouty, hyberbolic truth is NO DIFFERENT than an angry, shouty, hyberbolic lie.

Well, I mean, of course is. And we can all be very smug about how "we" use facts and how "our side" is therefore better than "there side." But when it comes done to it, *if* the repubs win big by the end of the night, the difference isn't that "we" tell truth and "they" tell lies, it's this:

"They" won and "we" lost.

What good is being morally superior then?

22. Jon made no mention or use of Maddow or Hartmann.
Those who claim he did lie. He also did not claim that any of those people lie, or that they are the same as their political opposites. Anyone saying that Jon said Rachel lies is lying.
Words matter. To some of us.

25. Playing inference games does not mitigate what you are doing
and you are addressing this to Jon, and including Maddow and Hartmann. You are clearly saying that Jon included them in the subject at hand, his montage that bothered the sports department. He did not.
You also leave Stephen Colbert and his character's point of view out of your little framing game. He was involved. Others you name, not involved.
Tell us why you included those names. Why you think Jon, but not Stephen, needs to be told that Maddow is not a liar. Share.
Truthiness in action. No wonder you didn't get it.

27. My "framing game"? Why do I need to include Stephan?
With your line of logic, one could conclude from your rubber duck that you drink your bathwater. I never claimed you drank your bathwater.

I included "those names" because they don't lie. I don't think Jon mentioned Rush either, but Rush still lies. Why are you defending Fox News, Hannity, etc.? Is that your framing game? Whatever that means. I think you understand my point, but you can't stand to have someone disagree with Jon
Stewart.
