Finally, at least ONE cable co. seems to be concerned about it's cust's!
I've had Charter cable TV & HS internet for 11 years. I've got a long list of nightmare stories of how they always say they're right, and if you're having a problem with one of their services, th best they can do is get a tech to check it out in 2, 3 or even 4 days! Well, 5 days ago my net access failed at midnight. Since I stream liberal radio all night I called Charter and they said they were doing maintenance and all would be well by 6AM. The problem did seem to be fixed by about 10AM and I was happy. Same thing happened the next night around 2AM. Again the following night I called last night and of course had lost all patience. I said the problem was NOT my computer, and hey had one week to fix it or I'm going with AT&T DSL. Well, much to my surprise, they set up an appointment or a tech to come out in about one hour and believe it or not, he was right on time! He replaced the modem, & replaced some out of date wquipment outside the house and all is working great now. BUT the reason I posted this info was about an hou after the tech left I got a call from Charter asking me to rate the service call. THEN about 30 mns later, I got a second call from the Charter contractor who performed the service call. They asked if I was satisfied, was everything fixed, and was I happy with the service tech. I gave very positive reviews to both callers, but I'm still in shock that the co. that really didn't GAS about customer complaints for 11 years all of a sudden is responding like they should! I can only guess it's because AT&T has been really pushing for the people in this area to subscribe to their service of TV, DSL, & phone services and they're beating the cable co's prices.

I hope all of you experience companies caring for their customers again too!

1. Last year I had problems with AT&T so I
switched to Charter and had my phone, dsl and tv all with one carrier. I had some problems with Charter and gave up and went back to AT&T. It would take 2 days to write the problems I then had, and am having, with AT&T. I am in an ongoing war with them. They do not respond to letters and when I call in for customer service butter wouldn't melt in their mouths but I still end up holding the bag while they add extras to my bill. I finally got it down to a workable price for dsl and phone. I go over every bill they send to me with a fine tooth comb. I have come to the conclusion we are all being nickled and dimed to death by companies that have a near monopoly on electronics.

5. Which co is the better provider in your opinion?
I really have been thinking about changing to AT&T DSL and their TV service which is satelite. I had used Charter.net as my emailaddy for 10 years! However, about 9 months ago I switched to gmail and sm taking that time to make sure I catch every place I've dealt with over those long years and swwitch muy addy with them. I thinkI've caught them all now so I'm free to go with some other high speed provider if I chose to do so. Although Charter really gets me crazy sometimes, I sure don't want to jump into a worse sitation. As far as your preferances go, which co's internet service was better? What about TV service? I'm very interested to know from someone who has had experience with both co's and has no reason to lie to me.

6. If you are more or less pleased with Charter now it
may be better to stick with them. I have noticed they are much more ready to be reasonable now than they were a year ago. Unfortunately I am in a semi-assisted living arrangement now and must go through AT&T for phone. That is the setup here. I do have Charter t.v. service which is fine. The only real beef I had at first with Charter telephone was when the T.V. went out so did the telephone. AT&T is another can of worms.

7. aThank you. As I read your posts, I started thinking about the
two companies and I realize one is a large businesss and the other is a HIGH business combined with the protections, at lest in part, of public utilities commissions. It makes sense that a omsumer would have ore clout with Charter. Thanks for helping me make the choice.

2. Companies are hurting for customers.
I have found this is a perfect time to call my service providers and negotiate for lower rates, by telling them I am considering switching to a competitor.
Basic service rates are ALWAYS negotiable, I have found.
