So Jon Stewart thinks we are as bad as the GOP sopporters?
Because that is bullshit!
Olbermann cares more about average americans than all of the GOP put together!
And I really do not see the democrats in congress trying to block everything.
I usually defend Jon but not this time. Calling out the dems and saying they are no different than the Gop is ridiculous!!!

2. I didn't hear him say that at the rally.

But if he thought that I would disagree with it. It could be that from within the concept of his frame of reference that is how he thinks.

I did here a couple comments that could be attributed to my posts, but both in good and bad ways. And they possible could be attributed to other posts also.

10. Yes. We should come to a "reasonable" compromise.
We should only blast away 1/2 of the proposed mountaintops for 1/2 clean coal.
We should allow 1/2 of dioxins to continue polluting the environment.
We should only cut 1/2 of the public schools from the American landscape.
We should cut S.S. benefits in 1/2.
Etc etc.

See? We can come to a "reasonable" compromise.

:hi:

5. There is a big difference....
Between yelling for the truth and yelling for hate and lies! I agree with you 100%. Part of the problem with the media (and Stewart) is that they always have to say "both sides do it" even though it's not true. KO speaks truth to power while those on FOX News speak to bring down Democrats in power....that is their one and only objective!

9. He said nothing of the kind.
He's advocating civility, which is not the same as bipartisanship. In other words, you can disagree with someone without being a dick about it. That was his point.

13. Exactly
How could anyone think Stewart doesn't see what's going on? He may be acting out of an 'excess of reasonableness' in his approach, but what he's decryuing is mostly the excesses of the Right.

Stewart and Colbert rocked! :toast:

11. He didn't say that. What he did say is that the media wants to divide people. He said people with
differences should deal with each other respectfully

I believe you are trying to setup up an equivalency, Stewart sure didn't

16. Stewart said no such thing. He was pointing out the nonsense of the 24/7 news cycle.
The hyping up of every word, gesture, or incident by the pundits to create news for their shows. You are purposely being obtuse if you watched the rally and left with this sentiment. I would say 98% of
the audience was democrat who understood the message loud and clear.

The rally was a great success and those pundits crying foul, have thin skins and don't like the glare from the mirror Stewart was holding up.

"Why would you work with Marxists actively subverting our Constitution or racists and homophobes who see no one’s humanity but their own?"

We are a "Balkanized" nation that peddles fear and distrusts every flavor of "the other". We do not harbor facts well, even on our side sometimes (especially when we are locked in reactionary cycles). The collective conditions for establishing the line between fact and fiction are broken. It's unfortunate that we (the generic we) have had to resort to comedy to point that out.

That was the point. One may have the facts on their side and yet may have lost the interpersonal legitimacy to convince anyone of their merits. The role of the montage of babblemouth cable news fire breathers, was to point that out. If we reproduced the hatred of the other side that comes from Ed or Keith in our own personal lives, how will we ever actually engage those around us to the point of seeing things our way (or building consensus around the facts at hand)?

At one point in time, most of us fashioned being better than the other side. More sane, reasonable, etc. If we reproduce their hatreds, then we are nothing more than they are. Reactionaries, locked in a never ending non-debate about facts we are unable to locate and/or comprehend. This happens here from time to time, with much less frequency than the right, but it happens.

The right has undermined the empirical basis for fact making by attacking our schools, our universities, and the expertise that go into collecting them. We jumped on that bandwagon to try to counter them, which was fine for a time. But we've left fact-making to wither in the dust of he said/she said".

All of the negativity has turned people off and left many with the inability to see right from wrong. That was the Republican plan. It may have worked.

People listen when you respect them and their opinions. Many will even change their mind if you point out the real impact of their positions on the lives of others. We are locked in a game of "gothcha" without an off button.
