Majority of Senators are Millionaires

Millionaires now comprise more than 50% of the U.S. Senate, up from 44% last year. According to analyses of financial disclosure forms by Roll Call, 54 senators reported a minimum net worth of more than $1 million. The total came close to reaching 58 because four other senators reported a net worth each of more than $900,000. A majority of the Senate also saw their fortunes expand over the past year. Altogether, senators claimed a combined wealth of $680 million, which was about 4% higher than the previous year.

These figures, based on the senators’ own disclosures, do not include non-income-producing properties, such as homes, nor do they include artwork, antiques, social security income or retirement accounts.

2. This would really bother me if they became millionaires as senators
as it is, I'm guessing it just means more billionaires need to run for office.

:silly:

4. How much does BEING a senator contribute to their wealth status?
How does wealth affect their ability to craft legislation?

I'm not for electing uneducated Christine O'Donnells or
Sharon Angles or Max Baucus or any number
Of unsophisticated types of folk -- but you have to
Wonder about our legislative trajectory and money
