Lobster supper without the lobster suffering
Lobster supper without the lobster suffering

It is a dilemma faced by every discerning diner – how to reconcile the delicious taste of a freshly-cooked lobster with the barbaric manner in which the creature met its end in the chef's pot?

Now a machine designed to electrocute crabs, lobsters and other large shellfish with a single jolt of electricity could provide the solution.

The Crustastun, which was demonstrated in London yesterday at the Food Innovation Centre in Covent Garden, has been touted as the most humane way of killing edible crustaceans without prolonged suffering.

1. As A Former Chef......

.....I never gave it a blip of a second about the Lobsters feelings....It was out of the tub and into the steam kettle and wait for that beautiful color to appear on its crust and then feast I would...

6. I want to die like my grampa did, quietly in my sleep.
Not screaming in fear like the passengers in his car.

There are ways to kill things dead without prolonging their suffering.

3. The first comment has a lot of potential - I really really want to ask
As for the necessity of the crustastun, what's wrong with a quick knife through the head?

7. Eating Lobster Is An Abomination! They Are Unclean!
Don't eat lobsters. Send them to me and I will eat them for you. It is my sacrifice, and I do it gladly to keep you from the deity's wrath.

8. If torturing an animal somehow made it taste more delicious,
would anyone here find it morally justified?

Sometimes I wonder when I read about how the right wing evangelicals believe that man has dominion over the earth and that gives them a clear conscience to do whatever they like with it and its life and then I see a reflection of it here.
