Former AG Bob Butterworth, a Democrat, endorses Crist in Florida
The Orlando Sentinel reports:

October 29, 2010

Gov. Charlie Crist picked up the endorsement of another high-profile Democrat Friday, Bob Butterworth, the state’s former attorney general and the man Crist appointed in 2006 to lead the Department of Children and Families.

He also got the support of the current DCF head, George Sheldon, another Democrat.

Crist, who abandoned the GOP in April to run as an independent, has managed to collect himself a nice little roster of Democratic endorsements. Among the more high-profile names are former Florida House Speaker Peter Wallace, Senate Democratic Leader Al Lawson, Congressman Robert Wexler and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Those endorsements only feed Democratic fears that Congressman Kendrick Meek, while well-liked and respected, can’t beat Republican Marco Rubio.

.....

More from Jane Musgrave at the Palm Beach Post:

October 29, 2010

ORLANDO —Yet another high-ranking Florida Democrat is endorsing independent Gov. Charlie Crist in the U.S. Senate race.

Before a cheering crowd of educators at the Florida Education Association annual delegate meeting, former Attorney General Bob Butterworth announced he is supporting Crist over his party’s candidate, Democrat Kendrick Meek.

“I am a moderate. I am a realist. I am a proud Democrat,” he said. “As a proud Democrat, I give my full support to Gov. Charlie Crist for the U.S. Senate.

Afterward, Butterworth told reporters his decision was pragmatic. “I love Kendrick Meek,” he said, echoing the words of many Democrats that have abandoned the congressman in recent weeks. However, he said, after talking to co-workers at his Fort Lauderdale law firm and friends, he became convinced: “Kendrick Meek cannot win this seat.”

Butterworth was appointed by Crist to head the Florida Department of Children & Families – one of the governor’s first bipartisan appointments.

Current DCF secretary George Sheldon, a Democrat who ran against Crist for the now defunct educator commissioner position, joined Butterworth and Crist on the stage to announce he was endorsing his boss as well.

The handwriting is on the wall.

It is imperative that we combine our forces to stop Marco Rubio.
