Courageous Cat Scares Off Coyote in O.C. Backyard (w/pic)
HUNTINGTON BEACH ( KTLA) -- Cats are usually easy prey for coyotes, but that wasn't the case for a pair of feisty felines in Huntington Beach.

Lloyd Roberts' surveillance camera captured a close-encounter between a coyote and his cats Tigger and Buddy.

The 12-minute-long video, taken just before 1 p.m. On Oct. 3, shows the cats walking cautiously through Roberts' yard as the coyote approaches them.

At one point, Tigger -- the star of the show -- can be seen arching his back and staring down the coyote face-to-face.

The coyote, apparently not hungry or just not in the mood, walks away and wanders around the yard for a bit. Tigger watches the coyote's every move.

2. That's what a house cat does when you bring home a dog from the city pound.

3. This is a perfect example of the power of not backing down
otherwise the cat would have been dinner.

Thanks for this and to see it so early in the morning gives me hope for the day.

4. If Mr. Roberts gave a shit about his cats, he'd make them strictly indoor cats
The coyotes will be back - you can bet on that - and they may be more hungry next time. I'd rather not even HAVE a cat if the possibility existed of that pet getting killed and eaten by a coyote...or mauled by a dog...or run over by a passing car...

7. Bull, I have seen my cats ride a german sheppard around my yard
because he was chasing one of the younger cats. I have seen the remains of a hawk in my back yard. Driving home I have seen older deer, and dogs and cats and even a racoon look both ways before crossing the highway. My cats live a very full and enjoyable life out here in the country. I can't say the same for cats that have to stay inside all the time as pets just looking out the windows dreaming of what it must be like.
Just my 2 cents worth.

9. Someone should save this picture and send it to al our Dem leaders
Motivating Democrats might be like herding cats, but cats only want to be herded if they end up being dinner. This cat displays the power of fighting back. The coyote didn't want to risk injury, especially to his eyes. He/she doesn't have access to health care.

Should nickname this cat, Alan Grayson.
