They call themselves the "teaparty" because…
They call themselves the "teaparty" because they want to invoke the American Revolution.

Of course, the reason they want to do this is more reminiscent of another "revolution" that happened fourscore and some odd years later and didn't go so well.

4. I thought it was because they lived in a childlike dream world
complete with invisible friends who would join the tea parties. And talking stuffed animals.
I see now I may have been wrong.

5. The Boston Tea Party was a protest against a tax (1773 Tea Act).
As such it was something that anti-tax republicans can identify with.

7. They call themselves the "Tea Party" because they want to protest taxes.
Not just high taxes, mind you - ALL TAXES.

Which indicates they have a fundamental misunderstanding of what the original Boston Tea Party in 1773 was all about: It wasn't protesting taxes at all; it was protesting that the people were not being represented in the government they pay for.

8. It occurred to me that the people controlling the Teabaggers are
more like the British loyalists than the rebels. Their wealth and power came from the king and they weren't about to change a thing.
Teabagger types don't realize it but they would have been more likely to be convinced that they should resist the rebels. They would have been told the rebels were radical liberals, would free the slaves and tax even more than the king.
