My son watched Inherit the Wind last night for the first time
And he listened to Keith O. tonight and sat there, nodding and giving the thumbs up sign.

Keith nailed it for everyone in our house tonight.

7. Did you ever see the older version with Jason Robards? I've tried to find that on DVD
or anywhere else for years with no success. I remember seeing it long ago but the Spencer Tracy one is my only archive...

8. Do yo mean Jack Lemmon?
not an older version - a re-make.

Wasn't the one with Tracy from back in the 1950s? I may be having some senior moments here...

Okay my bad, I just checked...the one I mentioned was indeed a 'remake'...I got my dates all wrong.
thanks

3. Great play. Great movie.
I had the pleasure of playing the John Scopes character in a community theater production about 15 years ago. The guy who played our Darrow character was one of the most talented and fantastic actors I've ever worked with.

I just saw It's a Wonderful Life for the first time a couple of months ago. I'm behind on the classics.

11. About the Scopes Monkey Trial
Edited on Wed Oct-27-10 09:03 PM by Tx4obama
The links below are to the ORIGINAL (best) versions.

Inherit the Wind
Teacher B.T. Cates is arrested for teaching Darwin's theories. Famous lawyer Henry Drummond defends him; fundamentalist politician Matthew Brady prosecutes. This is a very thinly disguised rendition of the 1925 "Scopes monkey trial" with debates between Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan taken largely from the transcripts.

Two other great films are:

12 Angry Men

To Kill a Mockingbird

27. "12 Angry Men" was just on the tube a few months ago
I remember watching that one and both "Inherit the Wind" and "To Kill a Mockingbird" in school, but all are must-see classics. Glad I happened to turn on the tube just as it was starting since I can't remember seeing it since I was a kid in school.

28. oh, He's seen both -- practically spoonfed him TKAM when he was little
And 12 Angry Men he watched in school - his one progressive teacher in social studies ran it. He loved that one too.

22. The most interesting part of it is Gene Kelly choosing to play a slightly
unlikeable character. Odd and good choice for him as he's good in the part.
