Once again, Glenn Beck struggles to draw a big crowd
October 27, 2010 11:16 am ET by Eric Boehlert

Beck appeared at a rally in Rapid City, S.D. yesterday in connection with his book release tour. Beck spoke at the local civic center which holds about 10,000 people. When Beck spoke, 3/4 of the arena was empty.

A view from the Rapid City Journal:

I was saying the same thing in the 60's, that "I'll be glad when these old SOB's in power are long gone." And here I am 50 years later and they're still around, Tea Baggers and all. I just sit here laughing, WTF happened, they're still around, we were all going to fix this in the 60's.

31. We live longer now.
Time to turn in those socialist medicare benefits and catch-as-catch-can, don't you think?

And you can make a deal with satan and live forever, ie Dicky Cheney.

33. Yep, that's gotta be what's going on, deals with satan... Cheney is like a movie with
endless sequels, a grade B horror movie that goes on and on. He's gotta be bionic by now.

A cool dude like Obama seems to find them to his liking.

Dicky is just that ultra-groovy.

You must have learned that at Beck University! It's a fine institution. It really treasures imagination over all else. Like that Rawling woman, and her tales of satanic children!

7. It's so bad, he's posing semi-nude in Vanity Fair these days, poor little hon.
Maybe I'll make a nice pot of soup to take to his house, some cans of tuna and what-not.

Poor little darling. I'd hate to see him lose all that adorable baby fat at such a young age.

27. I live in SD and was pleased to see that they had to slash
the ticket prices in order to get any kind of a decent crowd, according to an RC Journal article last week. Of course, the Journal did everything it could to play up the appearance and downplay the price-slashing, but there's only so much spin you can put on something like that. And the way it was played up in RC, you'd think it was the second coming of Christ. But that's par for the course for that area. Scream about taxes and the eeeevil fedrul' gubmint, but take in more money than they send, have their hands out for their farm and ranch subsidies and disaster relief anytime there's a flood or blizzard, and, the biggest money-draw in the area, Mt. Rushmore, which was paid for and is operated and maintained by said eeeeeevil fedrul' gubmint.

The state could never afford to do that on its own and it would be in some seriously bad financial shape without the tourist influx because of it. They love to put down "Easterners and West Coast-ers and Northerners", but have no problem taking their money during tourist season and such groups make up a huge chunk of the tourists each year. And FDR's CCC basically built the Black Hills into the tourist draw that it is today, private companies weren't interested in doing the kind of work necessary to make it a national tourist draw with easy access to most of the area.
