why isn't this discussed in DU? Dems have a HUGE get out the vote organization!

Early voting gives edge to Democrats

Some good news for Democrats this election season: Early voting.

An analysis of the more than 3 million ballots that have already been cast across the country "give Democrats an edge in a number of states and big counties," the Associated Press is reporting.

The Democrats -- who are fighting to keep control of the U.S. House and Senate -- also had success with early voting during President Obama's election in 2008.

"If people thought the Democrats were just going to roll over and play dead in this election, that's not what we're seeing," said Michael McDonald, a George Mason University professor who tracks early voting nationally, according to the AP dispatch. "They've got to be feeling a little bit better with the numbers that they're seeing."

Among the early voting strategies, AP reports:

In Washington state, Democrats held a "tweetup" to rein in young early voters. In Illinois, a voter-education group posted a YouTube video about the state's early-voting law highlighting the ability to vote naked -- from the comfort of home, please. In Florida, Democrats e-mailed a notice that "Today is Election Day. No, that's not a typo, because every day between now and November 2 is Election Day."

While it's impossible to tell for whom people are voting, Democrats so far are casting ballots at a faster clip than Republicans in Iowa, Maryland, North Carolina and Nevada's heavily Democratic Clark County, which supplied two-thirds of the state's voters in 2008.

2. Yeah, but the ballots aren't arriving enthusiastically enough
So they won't be counted. Or something. Anyway, I've heard it countless times over the last several weeks that only the "enthusiastic" votes will be tabulated this year. I'm not sure what makes a vote "enthusiastic," but my first guess would be the kind of ballot a poll worker doesn't want to handle without rubber gloves.

You made me nearly drop my Reese's cup - and, as that's my favorite Halloween candy, I would have been sad.

5. Oh No! We've already written the story of the massive Repub landslide!
What can we do bring back that trumped up enthusiasm gap!

Hope it arrives in time.

But seriously, folks, I think it's the corporate personhood and foreign donations isuess that's shaken everyone up--even the independents who were about to "desert" Obama.

9. How in the hell do they know more Democrats are voting
Edited on Thu Oct-21-10 03:13 PM by doc03
early, do they have a sign on their back saying Democrat? Even if they know do they know they voted for Democrats? When I went to vote I saw a couple people I know to be Teabaggers, I also know several people that normally vote Democrat that are pretty much disgusted with everyone. If I had a choice of a third party that truly opposed lobbyists, earmarks, debt, corporate money in politics I would vote for them in a minute. What we have today is Republican and Republican Lite.

12. GOTV!!
Now - when we retain power in House and Senate, Dems BETTER get more aggressive about taking care of business.

Democratic Congressmen - you cannot negotiate with the GOP, give it up. They don't care about the country and are going to block everything and I mean EVERYTHING if they lose in 2010. It will be harder going forward than it has been for the past two years, count on that.

You can actually take a lesson from the GOP, they stood together in solidarity to stop just about anything from passing. Put the pressure on the Democratic members to do the same thing, only do it for the good of our Country.

Get done what we will have voted TWICE for in 2 years, and realize that you have a second chance to move our country forward. FOCUS!!

And now, I'm going to go pick up my family and we are going to vote for you again.

Annette
