Pubbies planned a walk out? Didn't go anywhere:
Just caught this over at C & L:
"Just in: Red State indicates that the House Republicans plan a mass walk out at 3:55 today.... Switch to CSPAN."

And afterwards:
http://redstate.com

You will see the stricken text.

"Get on C-SPAN. (Strike out represented as underlining) At approximately 3:55 p.m. today the House GOP will stage a walk out to protest the Democrats' omnibus appropriations package in the form of a continuing resolution. The resolution is full of earmarks and other things that are bad news, including protecting Harry Reid's projects in Nevada. Well, they were suppose to walk about, but it looks like some of the RINO's killed the walk out and voted for the resolution.

The GOP has discovered in the 24 hours it has had to review the legislation that the legislation wipes out funding for programs designed to prevent AIDS in babies that have virtually wiped out "baby AIDS" in several states and the legislation almost takes away over $16 million in funding for military family housing.

Get on the TV."

3. They allege that the Democratic leadership only gave them...
24 hours to read the bill. I do not know if this is true, and it would be interesting to see if it is. That's at least some time to review it, but I wonder if it is appropriate on such a large bill.

4. Well, more like a "waddle out"--the pork-laden bastards--if anything!
Darn those "RINOs"--how dare they attempt to move the wheels of government along, rather than throw a monkey-wrench into the process with Gingrich-like tactics?

Without knowing more about what gives here, it's hard to say what's what. First, it's a Continuing Resolution, which is just a stopgap so that the money doesn't stop flowing entirely.

Second, we don't know if the medical funding has been moved to a different bill with a different funding stream. Third, sixteen MILLION in government housing money is SHIT. SHIT, I tell you, SHIT. PENNIES. Without knowing the details, I would have to ask these questions:

Is the money in the form of housing payments for civilian housing?

Is the money maintenance money for housing units, say, housing units that are on CLOSED installations? Or, is it maintenance money for old units that have been replaced by NEW units?

Without knowing the details, the outrage is bullshit. I am guessing if those "RINOs" didn't want to waddle out, they found out that the details didn't support the outrage.

7. Or does the bill specify that the contractor is limited to a Cheney friend.
Are these bills that came up in 2006?

The claim that they only had 24 hours sounds fishy. Do you think the Dems were or are going to be vindictive? Maybe the whiners expected vindictiveness and can only recognize it - real or not.

Who selects what they whine about? Assuming that directions come from a single source - like the brain in the WH.

9. No, no, no--it's a CR. The money is running out in 24 hours, so they pass a Continuing Resolution
to keep the spigot open while they sort out new bills for the next fiscal year and the outyears, if applicable. The reason they have to vote is because the authorization for the money was due to expire, and likely it was already extended from previous continuing resolutions (the government fiscal year goes from 1 OCT to 30 SEP, which is when most funding expires).

The goal was to keep dough going to programs that are already underway. Generally, they don't cut off dough unless it's a horrible fiscal mess and they are broke, or the program is total bullshit, or the program is already funded through another bill.

To get so goofy over a CR is childish. But then, they have practice, remember? They refused to sign off on the CR to keep the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT operating back in the Newt days...that's what put East Wing Monica (whose intern money was allocated differently and wasn't affected by the CR) into the WEST WING.

I remember those days well--I had a shitload of civ employees, and I had to tell them all to go home, and forbid them from coming to their workcenters. Why? Because if they got hurt, we weren't covered. Fucking Newt.....total pain in the ass. But that's the GOP way, I guess...
