8. Hey Span
I heard the news report on my drive to work.

There was a guy on Washington Journal from Hotline pretty much dissing the union donations and GOTV efforts for Democrats.

"Contrasting" that to all the unnamed donations going to the GOP.

Hotline is the publication that spawned Chuck Todd.

I suppose they all have to stick together and prop up their masters.

64. If not attending the SOTU is defined as bias, then yes.
Of course, that's a rather strange way to define bias since virtually none of the Justices attended the SOTU during Chimpy's first term and Ginsberg, Thomas, and Souter all stopped attending the SOTU more than a decade ago.

While I have no way of knowing what they will do, it wouldn't surprise or bother me if Kagan and/or Sotomayor decide not to attend.

23. It figures...
But I think he should be required to attend, and I think he should be required to show proper respect. Perhaps there's no law that says he has to attend, but I'm sure due influence could be brought on him to get him to shape up for an hour.

Supreme Court justices really shouldn't be throwing personal tantrums.

43. I assume you would apply the same standard to all of the justices?
Edited on Wed Oct-20-10 10:47 AM by onenote
And I assume, despite it being posted several times, that you don't know that Justice Ginsberg hasn't attended a SOTU address in nearly a decade and that several other Justices also routinely don't appear. Give Ginsburg's practice, it wouldn't necessarily surprise me if either Kagan or Sotomayor (or both) don't attend (although they might).

My point isn't to defend Alito for all of the bad decisions he makes, just to point out that whether or not he attends the SOTU is a non-issue.

She hasn't attended a SOTU in around a decade.

Alito is a terrible SCOTUS justice. But his decision not to attend the SOTU is a non-issue.

63. Its not a war at all. It happens all the time and is not limited to repub justices
Here is a roll call of SCOTUS Justices attending the SOTU for the past couple of administrations. As you can see, Ginsberg hasn't attended in over a decade. Same for Thomas. Same for Souter. For most Bush's first term, only Breyer consistently attended.

BUSH PRESIDENCY:
2008: Roberts, Breyer, Alito, Kennedy
2007: Roberts, Breyer, Alito, Kennedy
2006: Roberts, Thomas, Breyer, Alito
2005: Stevens, Breyer
2004: Breyer
2003: Breyer
2002: Kennedy, Breyer
2001: Breyer

CLINTON PRESIDENCY:
2000: None (due to illnesses and travel conflicts)
1999: O'Connor, Kennedy, Souter, Thomas, Ginsberg, Breyer
1998: Rehnquist, O'Connor, Souter, Thomas, Breyer
1997: Scalia, Kennedy, Souter, Thomas, Ginsberg, Breyer, White (retired)
1996: Rehnquist, O'Connor, Kennedy, Thomas, Ginsberg, Breyer
1995: Rehnquist, O'Connor, Scalia, Ginsberg, Breyer, Blackmun (retired)
