Obama meets Duncan meets Gingrich meets Demint.
Whattaya got.? "School Reform"!!!

Brave New World indeed. I think the idea of pulling tenure away from teachers and turning over hiring and firing decisions to 10,000 politicized and money-hungry school boards around the country headed by 10,000 Jim Demints is just fucking *brilliant*.

( Props to n2Doc for letting me borrow the image from a smaller forum.)

3. We're heading into tough times.
Too many here think a school board should be able to fire a teacher for her religious beliefs or political affilation, sexual orientation, or even the kind of dog she has. Record the F the child of a school board member earns? Find another job. Insist on teaching evolution? Good-bye. A relative of a local politician needs a teaching job? C-ya - gotta keep it in the family, ya know.

Of course, you'll never see it acknowledged by the union busters but these are the effects of ending due process protections for teachers that shield us from politicians, school board whims, and vindictive administrators. But you know that.

4. Indeed. That's why I like this particular issue.
Corporate DEMs are currently willing to sell-out one loyal constituency at a time ( in this case two... labor AND teachers) but are leery of selling out *three* sizable constituencies ( add GLBTs) at the same time.

Thank god DeMint is such an idiot that he makes this particular intended slight of hand particularly awkward for the current DEM leadership. ( Which really isn't DEM at all, philosophically speaking. Yet there they are.)

Seems obvious to me that the three constituencies are inextricably linked. Stripping teachers of tenure and making the entire profession the equivalent of a right-to-work state ( ummm... like SC?) will directly and deleteriously effect GLBTs... both kids and adults.

Most reasonable people will see this and I don't think it's necessary to draw them a friggin' roadmap. I hope.

De Mint's doing that for us.

5. So... no comment from "school reformer" Gingrich re. .....
... De Mint's "reform" agenda?

And... ahem... where would Secretary Duncan stand? School "reform" is a BIPARTISAN issue, he has assured us in the past. Only silence right now?

I'm not sure that's a legitimate option for Duncan. We have a right to know where exactly this "reform" is headed.
