I mean, really. Joe Miller? Sharon Angle? Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman? And for fuck's sake, Christine O'Donnell?

Actually, I'm sorry for impugning the character of circus people and carnies. They would actually be much better choices for office than these teabaglicans. Rodeo clowns might even be preferable.

1. They don't care who they run. They just want the bodies.
They'll program the brains later.

8. Exactly. They want the numbers. The current R leadership would still
run the show. The crazies would be marginalized, brought out when their votes are needed.

2. These are the ones we hear about. How about others?
There is no more G.O.P., imo. It is the American Idol of politics - entertain the people. Don't think about substance.

I hope they all go down in flames next month.

5. What was Smirky the Chimperor?
The last misadministration taught them they could put anybody anywhere, and it didn't matter. They will always have 20% support no matter what, and that is enough for them to declare a mandate, well that and the keys to the voting machines.

7. I think you're assuming that all of these people have 100 percent support
in their own party, which definitely isn't the case. They are similar to the Dems in that way -- no candidate, figure, or wing has the confidence of every registered Republican. The religious right doesn't like McCain types and vice-versa. 'Paleocons' hate the 'Neocons' and plenty of Republicans are not particularly keen on the tea party (not least the 'establishment types,' who keep seeing their hand-picked candidates get trounced in primaries by those with Tea Party support). Just like the Dems, when push comes to shove, many Republicans will opt for their party's candidate over a Democrat, but not always happily and sometimes not at all.

9. Support is irrelevant if all the repigs still vote for these clowns.
Support is what shows up at the ballot box.

With Dems, at least, if we aren't truly on board with a candidate, some of us might stay home. 'Thugs tend to always vote, and always for their people.

10. We'll see I guess
But out of the 5 people you mentioned, 3 will definitely lose and a 4th (Sharon Angle) may or may not win. So in a 'republican year,' that's not a great showing in high-profile races.

11. Unrec for insensitivity
Actually, I'm sorry for impugning the character of circus people and carnies.

Too little and too late to avoid an Unrec.

:nuke:

Rodeo clowns might even be preferable.

I could get on board with that idea. Meet me at the Busted Saddle after work, and we can discuss it over a beer.

13. The GOP HAD moderates, some of whom were actually good sensible people
with bigotry problems. But they were thrown out as the party found it got more NOTICE in the media with the wildly crazy bahavior of someone such as Newt Gingrich and his Contract On America, someone who was not necessarily truthful, but made great claims and got votes and cash. These people became the GOP, and they even THEY got replaced by the cartoon people we see now who have no business at all in what should be a somewhat serious business-politics.

Politics USED to be composed of people who wer thought fit two run the country...Palin? O'Donnell? Is anyone serious that these clowns are actually the same caliber as Mr. Obama or the Democrats?

16. It's not like this is a sudden development
Tom Coburn, Sam Brownback, Haley Barbour, Jeb! Bush and the entire misbegotten Bush clan, Jim DeMint, and on and on. These sideshow freaks are what the Republicans mean when they talk about the big tent. More properly known as the Big Top.

21. The real base of the gop, the rich, don't care a bit. They just want their billions so they
can live in a gated community, invest in stocks overseas and send their kids to private school. Why would they care how these nuts debase American politics because they are totally disconnected from life in America. The recession doesn't even hit them. Only the tax cuts do. Which is why we have to let the tax cuts expire on the rich because it is the only way they participate in building up the nation.
