'Fox and Friends' falls for ruse alleging purchase of $1 billion of jetpacks for LAPD, Fire Department
October 5, 2010 |

It's a story that, by all accounts, shouldn't have flown.

Anchors at the Fox News national morning news show "Fox and Friends" reported Tuesday that the city of Los Angeles had ordered 10,000 jetpacks for its police and fire departments. The price tag: a whopping $100,000 per unit.

For those doing the math at home, the cash-strapped city of Los Angeles, which is regularly sending its police detectives home because it can't pay all their overtime, allegedly shelled out a billion dollars on space-age transportation that it has never used in an emergency situation, much less tested.

"We certainly haven't bought any jetpacks," said LAPD Chief Charlie Beck. "We haven't bought cars for two years."

2. I remember watching a Buffalo Bills game;
Maybe 40 years ago. During halftime some dude either entered or left, memory IS the first thing to go, the stadium via jet pack. The announcers were thoroughly impressed and wondered if this type of transportation would take over from airplanes. fox news reports that it does, decades later.

9. Well, come on
A story this good, complete with all sorts of whiz-bang, and you expect someone to pick up the phone and call the LAPD for verification and comment? As noted philosopher Luke Skywalker famously intoned, "You want the impossible."

15. ALLEGED philosopher.
There's good evidence that Luke Skywalker never really existed! And 'the Force' is an asshole!

"Fox & Friends" show were not clever enough to see through the ruse?

12. The jetpack story is so typical of FauxNews reporting, I'm sure the anchors never batted an eye.

17. Fox News: terrorist Snidely Whiplash on the loose
A reputed terrorist mastermind managed to escape capture from Canadian Mounted Police and could be on his way to the U.S., according to a Friday report by Fox News.

The terrorist, known as Snidely Whiplash, apparently enjoys tying women to railroad tracks, robbing banks and attacking CMP forts in the wilderness. The information was first reported by Fox Newsmodel Gretchen Carlson on the “Fox & Friends” morning show.

“I’m not sure what channel I was watching, it must have been a Canadian network, but this guy Whiplash sure seems dangerous. In the report I was watching, he tied three innocent women to railroad tracks,” Carlson said. “In keeping with Fox news guidelines, I haven’t bothered to verify this information before putting it on the air, but it’s time for all of you to be very afraid. After all, we’ve got an election coming up.”

(continued….)
