Schwarzenegger: "I assume that Obama will get a second term in office"
Arnold Schwarzenegger: Obama will win in 2012

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1010/43170.html

By POLITICO STAFF | 10/5/10 4:48 PM EDT Updated: 10/5/10 5:09 PM EDT

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger predicted that President Barack Obama will win re-election in two years, especially if the Republican Party re-takes control of the House of Representatives in the November midterm elections.

"I assume that Obama will get a second term in office," Schwarzenegger said in an interview with DER SPIEGEL, the German news magazine. He said he doesn’t believe the GOP will succeed in finding a viable candidate who can beat Obama in 2012.

Schwarzenegger, the two-term Republican whose term expires in January, said the loss of Democrats’ House majority in next month’s election would bolster Obama’s chances for a second term.

“Obama can watch this casually, knowing that afterwards he will be in a much better position," he said.

The Hollywood star-turned-governor hasn't been shy about tweaking fellow Republicans, especially since Obama took office 20 months ago.

Schwarzenegger took a not-so-veiled shot at Sarah Palin in August via Twitter, writing from an airplane en route to Asia: “Over Anchorage, AK. Looking everywhere but can't see Russia from here." Schwarzenegger has also publicly embraced parts of the Democratic agenda, including the Obama administration's stimulus program and the new health care law.

2. I don't think he ever was one
He is married to a liberal, after all. The only reason he joined the GOP was because he had to in order to run against Davis.

4. He has always been a social liberal and a fiscal conservative.
And he identified as Republican long before he hooked up with the Mrs.

7. But today you cannot be a social liberal and be a Republican...
That may have worked back in the day, but today's Republican is all about "I have mine, fuck you" and "No one is entitled to a hand... up or out."

5. Prediction: Schwarzenegger will endorse Obama in 2012
He will be a private citizen by then and there would be no political repercussions for doing so.

And no, he is too unpopular now to be a viable candidate for Feinstein's seat then either.

Especially if the Rs win Congress this year. The contrast between his reasonableness and their psychosis will be obvious. Unless the rich through their control over the media prevent that comparison from being made.

17. like most people, a bit of a mixed bag
He's a fairly astute politician, and there's a lot about him I like. He's pretty progressive on social issues, and one of the very, very few Republicans I can stomach. He appears to be that rarest of creatures, a sensible Republican.
