Some 3,000 Millionaires Claim Jobless Benefits, IRS Data Show
After the economy slipped into recession in 2008, millions of Americans received unemployment benefits to make ends meet -- including almost 3,000 millionaires.

According to U.S. Internal Revenue Service data, 2,840 households reporting at least $1 million in income on their tax returns that year also collected a total of $18.6 million in jobless aid. They included 806 taxpayers with incomes over $2 million and 17 with incomes in excess of $10 million. In all, multimillionaires reported receiving $5.2 million in jobless benefits.

---------------

The first 26 weeks of unemployment benefits are paid by states. Nationally, benefits average about $300 per week. Because unemployment benefits are insurance, funded with taxes paid by employers, the program isn’t need-based like welfare. A millionaire who loses his or her job is entitled to benefits the same as a laid-off factory or restaurant worker, Viard said.

3. What's that sound?
It's the grating, raspy noise from hundreds of guillotine blades being sharpened back into service. Thing is, every last mother's one of them will utter as their last words, 'I never saw this coming!'

7. I'm hardly advocating violence, but who am I to argue with the will of the people?

and if you'll recall from history lessons, Mme. Guillotine was first deployed under the auspices of the National Assembly and retained by successive regimes until 1939. Besides, did I say, 'let's get those bastids & guillotine 'em?' No, I didn't. I'm merely channeling the disgust & contempt I feel arising from the masses when revelations of this sort make headlines. Plus, I'm against capital punishment in ALL cases.

8. If they lost their jobs, they are entitled to it...but....
I have an issue with their tax rates. People with incomes over $500k should be taxed at least at a 50% tax rate.

12. Fine, they are entitles to the Benefits
I have no ill will towards millionaires, they paid into it, they should be afforded the same rights as everybody else.

The hatred toward wealthy people on this board is disheartening.

13. It's certainly their right, and they paid into it - why shouldn't they get it?
On the other hand, most of them I'm sure didn't need it, and they should have passed on it.
