2. That fits in with people that think the world is a video game.
Edited on Sat Oct-02-10 12:50 AM by RandomThoughts
There is a delusion that the world is suppose to be about war. Note that those that see supernatural things that say that, why do you believe them? In that even creating unemployment for military recruitment would get people to think that.

And I have read things that say that also. heh, why would I believe that, why would anyone, they could be lying. How would you know? There are other things that say existence is not a war game.

If you have the 'world as video game' delusion not something I have.

Then why not make it a video game for romance, or building cities, or even music and dancing. Then the 'players' that like the war stuff will find a different game.

It is a great way to break the concept of 'existence being a war video game' delusion.

Note that the delusion is created to get people to think they have to be warlike in action and thought. It is to create the suffering that war causes. Not because it is true.

7. There's a proverb I heard once...
"Peace is a beautiful poem, but the world is illiterate"

People have been killing each other since we learned how to stick pointy things on long things. Sad as it is, violence is actually a part of what we are as a species - it's actually a feature of most mammals. We're never going to overcome it, we're never going to "end war" and "world peace" is a fantasy. Best we can do is minimize and ensure that when it does happen - and it WILL happen - that it is as brief and ends as cleanly as possible.

This is why there are international laws regarding how warfare is fought, rather than international laws outlawing warfare.

3. Hasn't this always been the case?
A good job can require a lot of things -- a position in the military usually just requires a willingness to sign the dotted line and pass an 'I'm not batshit' test. And even on the latter it's sometimes possible to slip by.

5. Yes, I suppose so...
...but the problem now seems considerably exacerbated by our severely anemic national economy.

Large numbers of economically disadvantaged kids fresh out of high school are deceived into believing adventure, followed by a free secondary education, awaits them courtesy of the U.S. military. I think many of them have no idea what they're getting into until it's too late.

You're right though, this is, sadly, not new.

4. The economic draft is indeed the sad truth.
OTOH, most people do not succumb to it.

6. that's been true as long as we've had an all volunteer military
whenever the economy is bad, it's hard to get in (though our current wars may be putting a dent in that truism).
