10. The truth?
How exactly does calling someone a member of the Taliban equal "telling the truth"?

It's just loud, obnoxious negative campaigning - no different then what the Republicans do.

33. The Truth. Politics is a street fight, not a kumbaya campfire
Edited on Tue Sep-28-10 10:16 AM by RainDog
It does NO GOOD to be "better than the Republicans" when it comes to working to totally quash the ideology of the right wing in this nation.

The goal is to be able to implement policy that benefits those who support you. For Democrats, that has traditionally been unions, women, minorities and wealthy liberals who agree that income distribution via taxes is in their interests because of the social stability this creates.

Both sides USED TO care about things like reigning in the power of corporations because of the threat to democracy when businesses may operate as large nations themselves - without any governing authority from the people.

If it takes street fighting to accomplish goals of what are supposed to be Democratic party platform principles - then that's what those who are in positions of governance should do to achieve those goals - because the goals of those who oppose people who support democrats are intended to do them harm. We have seen this repeatedly.

So, what's bad about being an effective politician?

http://www.susquehannapolling.com/

Also, according to the article, the poll was conducted with live calls rather than robo calls, which are suppose to be more accurate than robo call polls.

Edited on Mon Sep-27-10 09:25 PM by chill_wind

Susannah Randolph, Grayson's campaign manager, defended the ad. She pointed to Webster's ties to the Institute in Basic Life Principles and its founder Bill Gothard, who has taught that women should be subservient to their husbands and not work outside the home. While in the state House in 1990, Webster spent $4,340 of taxpayer money to print and mail a district mailer urging constituents to attend one of the group's seminars.

"He is speaking at a group that teaches that women should be submissive to men," Randolph said. "He's always pushed an agenda that is anti-woman."

The campaign spot also criticized Webster because of his opposition to abortion, even in cases of rape or incest; his sponsorship of a bill giving couples the option of entering a "covenant marriage" that would allow divorce only in cases of adultery; and his vote against a measure that would have prohibited insurance companies from treating domestic violence as a pre-existing condition.

23. All Politics Are Local...
While the corporate media obsesses with national "feel good" numbers, the fact remains that there are 435 separate races and each is based on its own unique set of issues and personalities. The 50 State strategy (RIP) fed into that concept and that each candidate has to deal with their races with their strongest suit...or to find the biggest weakness of an opponent.

The real crucial races are in red and purple districts where teabaggers have pulled politics to the right and many Democrats are scared shit of 'em as well as their own party. Thus we're seeing a lot of paralyzed races out there...candidates who run away from popular issues and are trying to slug it on in their own way. Unfortunately it's not working for many who alienated many on the left to pander to the right who never have or will accept them.

I admire Cong. Greyson's "chutzpah" and I would like to see more Democrats stand as strong as he does, but that also requires the convictions and personality that Alan has...and in this Democratic party that's in very short supply.

39. He is not in a strong position...
...in the district he is in.

I think Grayson is actually likely to lose his seat. The base may love him, but I am not so sure the voters in his district feel as positively.

The Republicans say the same thing about their outspoken, controversial figures. They actually think O'Donnell has a great shot in Delaware. They just don't accept that she is way too far on the right for Delaware voters. Grayson fighting as hard as he is may help a lot, but the ad he released was terrible and I am not too confident in holding this seat.
