There is an direct reason why I asked this question. In the unemployment movement, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) has sponsored the Americans Want to Work Act. This bill, if passed, would reinstate up to 20 weeks of unemployment benefits to the 99ers (those that are currently exhausted of all unemployment extensions)and provide up to a $2000.00 tax credit for small businesses to hire the long termed jobless.
Now, this bill would apply to states were the unemployment rate is over 7.5 percent. In Michigan (my state), the unemployment rate is 13.1 percent.
The bill is in a Congressional committee currently and their are rumors going around that this bill might receive some traction this week and be moved to the Senate floor for debate.
Here is the interesting part. The rumors on how this bill MIGHT move for an up or down vote, is coming from a group that call themselves "No Vote" or NOVO. This group is telling unemployed individuals, particularly those that might vote for Democrats in the House and the Senate, to not vote or vote opposite party, to punish the Democrats for not moving on S3706, quickly enough.
I believe that Senator Stabenow sponsored this bill from her heart. In the same aspect, I believe that she will do her BEST to have an up or down vote on the bill, as soon as possible. Also, there is NO WAY I am not voting in November, but I am concerned for other unemployed individuals that might feel like punishing the Democratic party for some reason.
The worst part, the NOVO's are trying to take some type of credit, for possibly pushing Stabenow to move this bill. Nothing, period has been confirmed anywhere in the media, from the Senator's office, that this bill is moving, at this point, next week.
What do you all think? Should unemployed job seekers dismiss this crazy talk and on November 2, support Democratic House and Senate candidates, that supported them or not....and why?
