Question: Colbert before Congress and John Conyers.
I had watched the segment of Colbert's testimony before Congress online. But, I had C-SPAN on this morning while waking up and heard something strange.

The testimony was written and submitted. But, John Conyers had asked Colbert to leave before the testimony. His reply that he was there because he had been invited.

Was that sequence correct or was I mis-remembering? If that is correct, I would like to hear what Conyers wanted just entered into the Congressional record, but not have a tape of Colbert giving it.

Now that I'm fully awake, I may watch the segment on cspan's server.

4. Right, but that is the beginning of the speech. What I'm
talking about was before that. There was a conversation between Colbert and Conyers. He was asked to leave.

Since I had seen the testimony online, I knew that he didn't. It was just strange Conyers wanting Colbert to get up and leave the session before it started.

2. Conyers? context of?
I asked yesterday in a post if anyone was watching the very beginning of the hearing, before it actually started, before Colbert's speaker was turned on. No one answered. I tuned in at the middle of Conyers statement asking Colbert to leave. Why did he do that? What was said by Conyers, and anything before that? Answer - ????

3. well, you just answered my question. If you heard that too
then I was right when I heard it during the repeat.

I NOW have to watch the cspan clip from the website. It was really strange. And yes, Conyers DID ask him to leave and Colbert questioned that and said he was only there because he was invited.

Hopefully, the cspan clip will continue to show the very beginning.

5. conyers? context of?
After watching the committee on C-Span net, I realize that I missed at least 26 minutes of the beginning of the hearing. Rangel's asking Colbert to leave the room was during his (Rangel's) introductory remarks; it still doesn't make sense to me why he did that. It ocurrs about 25 minutes into the hearing.

John CONYERS.

He praises Colbert and then asks him to leave.

And, you are right. It does not make sense.

7. Conyer's may have heard that Colbert was going to "go off script",
I think... Or had said that he had slightly altered his submitted statement. I think it spooked Conyers who asked Colbert to submit his testimony in writing and leave... STephen said that he had been invited by ________ . . .(the lady who was chairing the sub-committee meeting .. name?) and would leave at her request. THEN, I'm guessing that Conyers got a wind of what the changes were, didn't mind and withdrew his request...

That is my very best guess after having watched it live.
