Petition to Oprah to invite Diane Ravitch on her show
Dear Ms. Winfrey:

We, the undersigned, were very disappointed with the recent Oprah show featuring Michelle Rhee and Bill Gates. We urge you to invite Prof. Diane Ravitch as a guest on your show.

Diane is an expert in the history of public education, the author of the bestseller, "The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice Undermine Education," and is extremely incisive about the problems with the current rage for high stakes testing and privatization of our public schools.

There is much more to the story than "Waiting for Superman" reveals, and it's important that all sides be heard.

6. signed. . .
This just keeps coming off as some conservative wet dream come true. . .the wealthy purchase elections, and they purchase the school districts. The American people are turning themselves into 21st century serfs.

It is bad enough that Winfrey didn't have any other point of view on that program. . .and I'm not sure I trust her with handling Ravitch well on the show.

We're NOT 'Waiting for Superman'
www.rethinkingschools.org
On Sept. 24, a new film, "Waiting for Superman," will draw media attention to public education across the country. Unfortunately, most of it will be negative. So we've started a project to talk back to the film and the message it promotes. We hope you will join us at NOTwaitingforsuperman.org.

Here's the link to their facebook page:

9. It's sad when we resort to petitioning entertainers, since politicians fail us
Not criticizing your OP in any way, in fact it sounds like it's necessary after the bullshit propaganda she hosted.

It's just a sad state of affairs.

Millions of people were in the global streets to protest the Iraq Occupation, and....zip.

K&R

The petition has set a very modest goal of 1,000. C'mon - get it out to all your teacher friends/colleagues...should be many, many more than that.

20. I just saw a local newscast anouncing that
Annie Delgado, a teacher at Buhat Colony in Atwater, CA is going to be on Oprah today (Fri). They said she email Oprah disagreeing with some of the things she heard on the Waiting for Superman show and they invited her to be on a panel today.

22. Yea, I have no idea who this person is...
it sounds like she was just one of the many people who emailed about the show. And they did say there was going to be a "panel."

So we'll see.
