"Obamacare"
This is not a thread about the substance of the program or the dates or its implementation, or anything else. It *is* about the media and the term "Obamacare".

Today, on the radio, CBS' Mark Knoller did as report on the kick-in of certain provisions today. He spoke about it being the six month anniversary.

Throughout the report - maybe half a dozen times? - he called it "Obamacare".

Over the course of my two-plus hours in the car today I heard other reports, both local and national. I heard one local political analyst talk about, too. Every report was neutral to negative in tone.

Everyone called it "Obamacare".

I find that offensive and disrespectful. But mostly, I find it dismissive.

My view of the health insurance bill is no secret, but this is over the top, it seems to me, to have newsreaders and a usually noninflamatory analyst use the term.

It was jarring.

1. I've had an issue with this as well
It is THE topic of healthcare discussion here in my neck of the woods...i would associate with my neighbors' way of making racial remarks without "sounding" racist.

2. I agree.
And we're looking forward to this week's start-up, when our 22 year old daughter can be covered again under her father's policy, as she needs medical attention.

4. It is only offensive if you consider what they did offensive.

If the Health Care Bill that got passed is offensive to you then no matter what it is called it would be offensive. If you like it then it should be a badge of honor for Obama and all who got it passed..I think we ought to latch on to the term and make it a term of endearment..Obama care is going to save lives while the Republicans have nothing to offer at all.

5. The term pisses me off
If we had what Obama proposed it would be single payer.

It was watered down by those who didn't vote for it then branded Obamacare to do the same thing they did with the term liberal.

Frame negatively is what the right wing M$M is good at.

10. As well as I .....I think this name they gave it is ridiculous
And I can not understand why Americans hate the people in this country so much, that don't agree with them, they are not the same color as they are, the same religion or the same sexual orientation that they would want to deny them a healthy life. I can not understand also why elected officials in our congress didn't support a better health care bill.

It also makes me mad as hell that the republicans and tea bags continue to say they are Christians and that God talks to them. When they are doing all these things to people less fortunate or needy. I think they are more attuned to the Devil and his policies than they are to God and His. I wish there were some way that for just six months out of their miserable life they would experience all the trials and all the things that real Americans thru no fault of their own have experience. I wish Rush and Rove and Beck and especially fox were drummed out of business and truthfully out of the country. They do not deserve to live here. They should not be allowed to spew the type of poison they do, and if our elected officials had any balls, spine, backbone what ever you want to call it, they would have instituted some sort of Fairness Doctrine that would reign these traitors. YES those type of people are traitors. In their own way they are turning against the principals that we founded this country on. God what a rant ...but that's how I feel. Does anybody else feel this way.

11. Republican talking points are always used by what we want to call
Mainstream/Corporate media. Unfortunately, their aim is the same
as that of the GOP.

16. To be honest, I was fine with it until
I heard that my flexible spending account could not be used for OTC items starting January 1st. With two young children, a lot of the money from that went towards OTC items for them. This is a direct tax increase on me and my family, and I make far, far less than 200k a year. It's a fucking bullshit tax increase, and there is no other way to spin it.

20. More evidence that the Dems (yet again) brought a knife to a gun fight.
Everybody knew that the GOP was going to make the Dems own HRC, and simultaneously demonize it. So here it is, playing out.
