WSJ: Bill Gates to vote for state income tax on rich
Bill Gates plans to vote for the initiative that would establish an income tax on the rich in Washington state, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Citing "a person close to Mr. Gates," the WSJ said the Microsoft co-founder plans to side with his father on Initiative 1098. Bill Gates Sr. speaheaded the effort in April and has continued to be a vocal supporter of the tax since then.

But the younger Gates would be separating himself from his hand-picked successor, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, who recently contributed $100,000 to the Defeat I-1098 campaign. Apparently Ballmer and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who also contributed, don't want to part with their cash.

I-1098 would establish an income tax on individuals who make more than $200,000 a year -- and couples who make $400,000 a year -- and use the money to fund education and health care. The measure will be up for vote in the Nov. 2 general election.

Once the richest man in the world, Gates has not officially weighed in on the issue.
