Last night's call with Russ Feingold.

First of all, thanks to those of you who submitted ideas for questions of Russ. At the top of that list was, of course, "what can I do to help get you re-elected?". This was really the purpose of the call. (Note: I was at one of 58 "house parties" for Russ that had volunteers planning campaign work.)

I, unfortunately, was not able to ask the question I had chosen, which was "with the disturbing reports regarding electronic voting machines - from ownership who has pledged to get right-wing candidates in office, to system security that rivals the Etch-A-
Sketch, to reports of actual results that vary widely from exit polls and absentee ballots - how can we be sure that our elections are honest?"

One DU member suggested I ask why Feingold is behind double-digits in the polls. Reinforcing my own bias against polls, Russ answered this without prompting "We have our own polls, which show us slightly ahead." My personal opinion is that most polls are designed to shape opinion, not measure it. The only poll that matters is Nov 2.

Russ has a strong challenger with deep pockets and a "corporate profits first" mentality. On the other side, Russ was named "lobbyists biggest enemy".

Any support you can provide Senator Feingold is appreciated.

1. He has my support, and whatever dollars I can send him.

And I totally agree about the manipulations of the polls.

Russ is one of the best and we have to have him in there to try and keep the others honest!

3. Don't underestimate Feingold's nearly 18 years of meeting the people of Wisconsin face to face

in meetings all over the state. Johnson cannot overcome that.

I'm giving Feingold support that cannot be bought--my vote.

4. I would have a question for Ron Johnson

"Will you commit to holding listening sessions in every county in Wisconsin every year, as Senator Feingold promised to do eighteen years ago and has done each year since?"

5. Did Russ really do that?

I lived in Richland County from 1993 to 1998 and do not remember a single listening session. Who knows though. I was working two jobs for much of that time and probably could not have gone to one, but I did make a meeting of rhe Richland County Democrats in Hub City where I met Tammy Baldwin in 1998.

6. Yes, he has not missed one county in all that time.
