MSNBC is saying we didn't get the 60 on DADT to overcome filibuster. Not
official, no final tally, but that's what they're saying.

Rachel on to comment now.

1. How could we get 60 votes?
We have a bunch of corporatist on our side, and the party of no on the other side..

23. Three is three too many, I agree. But they were the ones who always piss us
off and stab us in the back, so it wasn't a bunch of corporatists. Although I agree we do have some.

6. There was needed at least one Repuke vote for Cloture, since even with Lieberman and Sanders,
the Democrats have only 59 votes for cloture.

But if I were to tell the Dems who voted 'no' what I think of them, my dad would come back from the grave to make me eat a bar of soap.

This. Is. Disgusting.

25. Bullshit.
The Democrats are leaderless? They rallied almost all their votes to pass this. Three defected. Of those three, one is a lameduck who knows she is out in November regardless. The other two were not going to budge regardless.

This isn't about the Democrats lacking leadership. It's about the Democrats not having a filibuster-proof majority.

28. They never had it.
They needed 60 votes.

The Democrats don't have 60 seats.

They have 59. Even if every Democrat (including Lieberman, who caucuses with the Democrats) voted for this, they would still need one Republican.

30. They are being outplayed
If you have the numbers and you're still losing, you're being outplayed and outsmarted. Mitch McConnell is working with a better game plan than Harry Reid.

31. They never had the numbers!
Do you even know how this works?

The Democrats needed 60 votes. Even if every Democrat voted to repeal, that would still leave them ONE VOTE SHORT.

That's not having the votes.

35. But don't withdraw the bill! Keep the Senate in session on this one bill until 60 votes are won.

That would be what, a couple days or a week at most?

The other option is to once again wave the white flag and surrender to Republican obstructionists.
