1. I'm afraid...
Edited on Tue Sep-21-10 11:25 AM by EXneoCON
I received an underwhelming response to my post ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x9169008 ) asking who was going from DU (except for AmyKeshe and Atticus, who are coming, and two other good souls that couldn't make it.) Compare to the Colbert/Stewart thread - btw I like both Colbert and Stewart.

I really think this is going to be a march to remember. So many groups are participating. I know how busy people are and strapped for cash also (me included), but maybe it's just not a DU kinda' thing. I would love for DU'ers everywhere to prove me wrong.

A big  & :kick: to Better Believe It for banging the drum for this event!

2. I signed up for the FREE ride with the UAW
they are sending busses from a bunch of places in PA.

I'm getting stoked.
First time for me at any sort of thing like this.
Well, does a sit-in in 9th grade count?

I hope I dont have to work, as of now I'm free...but I sure need the money, but this would be worth it.

3. Do like I'm doing...
and packing all the food I'll eat on the trip. Gonna' make it a "grazing" kind of trip; granola, grapes, lotsa water, etc.

The Amtrak ticket tapped my disposable income for about four months, but it's worth it.

So, I got a free ride for someone in the southeast PA area.

I am trying to connect riders with buses. I have a gentleman in Northeast Philadelphia that would like to take you up on your offer of a ride to the union hall. He has been having a difficult time with actually getting TO a bus. I have his email address and will send it to you if you want. I cannot send it through Democratic Underground messaging as I am too new here for private messages hehe. Let me know! Amy Keshe

13. I would love to go
There's a bus from my area with a hotel stay. The cost is a reasonable $140, but I've been unemployed for so long, I just can't afford that.

Unfortunately, for so many of us affected by this mess who want to be there simply aren't able to afford it. :-(

I organized a DUer meetup in D.C. prior to the Iraq invasion. It was awesome and we had about 30 people show up. But, then I had a job and money. Oh well...

I am still trying to connect riders from Iowa with buses or carpools. Unfortunately there were not a lot of buses from this state and the ones they had filled up pretty fast. The postal workers union is supporting the march but they have a conference or something that could not be rescheduled. If anyone gets a line on a bus or carpool please share it here under the Iowa heading: http://www.facebook.com/board.php?uid=130038760366906#

93. UPDATE New York Ithaca Buses One Nation Working Together 10-2-10
Edited on Tue Sep-28-10 07:52 AM by AmyKeshe

ITHACA

The Workers’ Center is pleased to announce that, with the generous help of UAW Local 2300, we are sponsoring two buses to travel to Washington DC on October 2nd where we will march.
We don’t know exactly when the buses will be leaving Ithaca but the march starts at noon on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial . Bus tickets cost $20.

Call the Workers’ Center at 269-0409 to reserve a space

ITHACA UPDATE!
Thanks to the beneficence of the UAW local 2300, the two buses will be FREE and a BOX LUNCH will be thrown in as well!
It will be a grueling day, starting at 2 am on Saturday morning when we board the bus, and ending around midnight when we return to Ithaca, but I’m sure the energy, enthusiasm and inspiration we will receive from being in DC with thousands of like-minded activists and organizers will be well worth it.

Lansing
The Peace Education Center of Greater Lansing is heeding the call to march on Washington, D.C. on October 2, 2010, for jobs, justice, and peace. In a Labor Day kick off, the Peace Education Center announced it is organizing a bus to go from mid-Michigan to Washington for the “One Nation Working Together” national march. The peace organization is inviting local citizens from all backgrounds and beliefs to take the bus to a national rally at the Lincoln Memorial.

“In mid-Michigan, the Peace Education Center will be partners in the One Nation Working Together coalition,” according to Melissa Osborn, co-chair of the Peace Education Center. “Our bus leaving on Oct. 1st will be filled with people representing environmentalists, peace groups, civil rights, women’s and LGBTQI groups, faith groups, students, unions, teachers, and many more. We also expect members of the Michigan Peace Network to join us on the bus for this historic march.”

Mid-Michigan citizens who are interested in riding the PEC-sponsored bus to Washington, D.C. can contact the Peace Education at 517-515-5634 or by email message to peaceedcenter@gmail.com. The Peace Education Center is asking $50 per rider to defray the transportation costs. Donations are welcome from people who cannot make the bus trip but want to sponsor a rider on the bus. Donations will enable there to be scholarship seats available for students, unemployed residents, and low or minimum wage workers.

The bus will leave from East Lansing at 8 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2010. The bus will arrive in Washington, D.C. on Saturday morning, Oct. 2, for the march. The bus will leave Washington that evening and arrive back in East Lansing on Sunday morning, Oct. 3, 2010.

INDIANAPOLIS AND EVANSVILLE
this is from another marcher who found a bus in Indiana:
"We were able to find a seat on a bus through the Indianapolis NAACP. It cost $100.00 per person and there is no over night stay. Just straight there and back. I also called the Evansville NAACP and they are also going to send a bus and it is $219,00 but I think that includes an overnight stay but am not sure."

Saturday, October 2: Get on the Bus! “ONE NATION WORKING TOGETHER” Rally in DC

(One Nation info here; more on this further down in this email!)

Reserve place now on SEIU bus to DC for Oct. 2 Jobs Rally!

Becky Pierce writes:

“Hi, DPP friends---Joanie Parker of SEIU 1199 (and the 25% Coalition) has asked me to get a count of how many people from DPP want seats on the SEIU buses to the big Oct. 2 "One Nation" jobs rally in DC, Sat. Oct. 2.

They need to know soon, to reserve enough buses, so I said I'd poll people and get back to her in a week, which is next Wed. Sept. 1. So please let me know by then if you can. She said over 3000 people have already signed up, and people who don't reserve soon may not get seats.

(There may still be a chance to get on the SEIU bus later, but that is not assured.)

This is a good deal. SEIU is essentially paying for the buses. They are asking people to pay $10 or whatever they can afford.

Buses leave Boston Fri. Oct. 1, 10 PM, and leave DC Sat. at 5 PM, returning to Boston around 2 AM Sunday Oct. 3.

So far Mike and I are going and riding the SEIU bus. Hope you can join us. Let me know (617-282-3783).

Thanks! ---Becky

UPDATE BURLESON/FORT WORTH

We are now taking reservations for a bus trip to the D.C. rally and will be making it in a all day/night ride with no layovers until we get to D.C..

Spend Saturday night in D.C. and return Sunday morning and arrive Fort Worth Monday morning.

These changes were made to accomodate more people who could not get off from work and also to keep the costs in line.

I am striving to keep the cost per person not to exceed $275.00.

For those that have already signed up and now cannot attend because of the changes please advise me.

78. Note about the posts for buses
Sorry it just occurred to me that many people do not belong to facebook and perhaps do not want to join to get bus info. I am sorry the posts are so difficult to read in many cases... I could have made them neater and prettier but I wanted to get them on here ASAP. I copied and pasted from the facebook discussion board and the format change makes them look messy. This list is by no means complete. I surf the web everyday looking for bus information. I call various organizations around the country.
I would appreciate any good leads on buses. I am still working on some specific targets for various people, most notably central and South Florida and Iowa.
