Aloha DU,

Just a bit of great news from way out here in the middle of the ocean...a real genuine Democrat who believes in equality, preserving the environment, food security, and education WON the Democratic primary for Governor in a landslide tonight. By landslide I mean 60-40.

Here'a a great little youtube video about our next Governor, Neil Abercrombie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjiQ53z6bqg

It's been pretty spooky over here folks...but the far right wing fundies and corporate greedheads were not able to keep the people down.

Imua Hawai'i nei, Imua Neil!

Mau ke aloha, aloha Hawai'i!!!!!!!!

9. I didn't mean that Mufi isn't a good man. I don't know him, and I'm not referring to him.

I do know his decisions and actions, and some of his supporters and their actions. You can't do the kinds of things that were done as a regular course of business and expect people not to know about it.

I have good friends in his campaign too, but the corporate greedheads and far right wing fundies that I mentioned were in an alliance here that was defeated by the people.

Attacking Neil for: being caucasian, being born on the mainland, having a haole wife, being in Congress for so long, being old, not being in a megachurch... those attacks were not effective.

What was effective was doing the work of listening to the people, going to every island and working in small communities day in day out, staying focused on the issues and trusting the people. This man is guided by a very strong inner moral compass, and I trust him.

"Today I call on all of you to catch a new wave—of hope, of change, of action—a wave of optimism that will take us to the Hawaii that is always talked about, but has not yet been realized.

It is a Hawaii where we have confidence that our children can build happy and prosperous lives right here in the islands; a vibrant economy where people can afford to live in Hawaii with good jobs and opportunities for all; a self-sufficient island chain where we produce clean energy and healthy food for our own people; a community that devotes itself to educating children, caring for kupuna, and carefully managing our natural resources.

It is a Hawaii where we have restored confidence in a government that belongs to the people. Instead of partisan gridlock, ideological arguments, and endless process, we will rebuild a government that emphasizes solutions and action.

This new wave calls on each of us to set aside differences and to participate in our government. It is a grassroots movement of people seeking information, making their voices heard, and taking ownership. It is a reminder to each of us to live by our values of respect and kindness—of unity and aloha.

I am so grateful to everyone who has been a part of this campaign thus far. So many people have contributed so much to this effort. More importantly, you have modeled a new way forward for Hawaii. The way we have campaigned—positive, empowered, open and inviting—is exactly how we need to be if we are going to bring change to Hawaii.

I thank Mufi Hannemann, his family, and all his supporters for their commitment to Hawaii’s future and for all the sacrifices they made in this primary election. I am reaching out to all of Mayor Hannemann’s supporters with open arms and will do my best to deserve your consideration. You gave him your trust and I will respect that; you gave him your faith and I will honor that.
I congratulate Lieutenant Governor Aiona on his victory and I look forward to debating our visions for Hawaii. He is a dedicated public servant whose commitment to Hawaii I acknowledge and salute.

From the very beginning I have said that this campaign is not about me. This campaign is about you. It is about your vision of Hawaii and the legacy we will leave for future generations.

We are now one big step closer to a new day in Hawaii.

Mahalo. "

2. I'm glad Lingle is leaving office! She sold out the people to corrupt corporations.
Instead of forcing corrupt corporations like Tesoro from contributing to the budget shortfalls Linda Lingle attacked the most vulnerable, like teachers who were coerced to taking an 8% pay cut and then still forced to work on their furloughed day just to keep up with their jobs. Tesoro's stock went from $2 a share in 2002 to over $130 a share just a few years later because of Bush's war, but Tesoro didnt contribute a dime to help teachers or anyone else on the islands.

I am so sick of corrupt, soulless republicans and their war on the most vulnerable in society while they defend the abusive, sociopathic rich and powerful.

Mahalo

11. Actually that is a good question to ask of the Aiona campaign,
because my feeling is that it's going to be a blowout.

Linda Lingle was a disaster, I concur...she was also a Democrat who was not allowed to participate in the party, so went where she was welcomed. She learned how to be a Republican really quickly and now is, or was anyway, a force for her party.

I don't mean to dismiss the really significant power of the megachurches. I sure wish they were really guided by true Christian principles rather than dividing us with hate against gay people.

Still I think Neil is going to be our next governor, in a landslide. Stay tuned! http://www.neilabercrombie.com/

15. Maybe after you do everything you can over there first!
Nah, just kidding...good luck over there.

It's expensive here and can be challenging to find work but smart people who work hard usually find a way.

Come visit and see if you like it first :)
