Stamford man arrested for allegedly threatening president

GREENWICH -- Letters sent to the town Democratic headquarters threatening President Barack Obama are a reminder that people sometimes cross the line in a contentious political environment, a top Greenwich Democrat said Friday.

"We live in a time when people are angry, but there is absolutely no excuse for activity like this," Democrat Selectman Drew Marzullo said.

Joseph Antonelli, 64, of Dean Street, Stamford, was arrested by Greenwich police and charged with three counts of disorderly conduct Thursday, the same day Obama was in Stamford and Greenwich for a pair of Democratic fundraisers.

Antonelli was held on $10,000 bond for a court appearance Friday in state Superior Court in Stamford. He remains in custody and is next scheduled to appear in court Monday.
