Why is the October 2cnd Union Sponsored Rally not getting attention on this site?

Seriously? What is up with that? The October 2cd Rally is our best opportunity to get behind a serious movement to show that Teabaggers don't represent American values.

http://www.onenationworkingtogether.org/?page_id=4">ONE NATION WORKING TOGETHER

I enjoy and appreciate what Stewart and Colbert do, but even if they get a huge showing it will be seen as a publicity stunt and a reflection of their popularity and the message will not be so clear.

Seriously, why is the Union Sponsored event getting little recognition here? Is it because some don't care for a speaker? If so that would be quite shallow. It can't be that can it?

Does the SEIU need to wear a costume before people will stand up for unions?

Let's here pump this up for the Unions and middle class America :)

I hope people here will attend it if they can. We need to make our presence felt!

6. Because it's organized labor
which is not a real priority here. Labor and progressives have traditionally clashed over the years anyway with labor usually winning and progressives being pissed off. Been happening since at least 1972 that I know of. Labor is much more moderate than progressives like and often they won't take positions on issues important to progressives. For example, labor has taken no position that I know of on gay marriage. That won't exactly get gays and other progressives to support them. Labor has taken no position on abortion. Reason being their members are varied and have differing opinions on these issues. And they are not core labor issues such as wages, benefits and conditions of work anyway.

I don't see that at all. In fact what I see on this site is progressives standing for them. I don't know what it is like where you live, but I have been around for a while too and Unions values are quite close to progressive values in most areas.

Also, unions are solidly Democratic Party supporters. If this site truly favors democrats it should be a huge deal around here. I think the OP is making a good point.

11. What?! Progressives are the best friends labor has in this country

Economic justice and in especial, the right to organize is the first item in the progressive premise:

1. Fighting for Economic Justice and Security in the U.S. and Global Economies!
» To uphold the right to universal access to affordable, high quality healthcare for all.

» To preserve guaranteed Social Security benefits for all Americans, protect private pensions, and require corporate accountability.

» To invest in America and create new jobs in the U.S. by building more affordable housing, re-building America’s schools and physical infrastructure, cleaning up our environment, and improving homeland security.

» To export more American products and not more American jobs and demand fair trade.

» To reaffirm freedom of association and enforce the right to organize.

» To ensure working families can live above the poverty line and with dignity by raising and indexing the minimum wage.

12. you're not up to speed; lgbt are specifically invited to this event, & lgbt orgs are among
the partners:

e.g. national lesbian & gay task force, mass equality, mass trasngender coalition, etc.

18. There are lots of gay union members here and elsewhere.
I don't know why you are singling out the GBLT. There are quite a number of anti-union people here who are straight. Funny I never see you fighting with them....

22. you are obviously not talking about CWA
one of the larger unions and more progressive. Many, many, Gay and female members and leadership. I enjoy full benefits for spouse and myself thanks to CWA, certainly not the largess of ATT

23. CWA has taken a position via a convention resolution supporting
"...Ensuring economic equality for all workers by supporting their right to civil marriage." OTOH, CWA has no position on reproductive rights. And they won't. It's too divisive. CWA for one is much more progressive than other unions.

However, my point is that even this is lost on people here at DU. They slam and deride AT&T Wireless for many and various sundry reasons and absolutely dismiss any notion that they should be using AT&T Wireless as the only union (CWA) cell phone provider.

15. There is nothing within a 100 mile radius and within a
200 mile radius there is a person in Bellefontaine looking for a ride share and a bus in West Valley NY wherever that is. Bellefontaine is a good 3 1/2 hour drive from here. I would think there would be something from Pittsburgh at least, the USW headquarters is there.
