Nate Silver: Murkowski Can Win as Write-In

Nate Silver: Murkowski Can Win as Write-In

Excerpt:
Can Ms. Murkowski win? Sure she can. There is plenty of precedent for write-ins being elected to the Congress, although fewer have done so successfully in recent years. Meanwhile, a poll by Public Policy Polling found Ms. Murkowski getting 34 percent of the vote against Mr. Miller’s 38 percent and Mr. McAdams’ 22 percent. Private polling has also shown Ms. Murkowski running closely with Mr. Miller, according to The Hotline.

These polls must be approached with some caution. The survey from Public Policy Polling, for instance, asked voters to contemplate what they would do if Ms. Murkowski’s name appeared on the ballot as a Libertarian — rather than as a write-in.

The extent to which Ms. Murkowski, as a write-in, will sacrifice votes she otherwise might have received is unclear. Some voters might forget that she is running, or they might find it too cumbersome to fill out her name. Others might desire to do so, but might fill out their ballots incorrectly.

-----------------------

So, this is what I think...
If I were a republican then I'd be hollering at the republican senators that have been threatening/talking/thinking about taking away Murkowski's ranking membership on the Energy committee (before the election) - BECAUSE if the republicans piss Murkowski off, and then she wins an Independent, then she might just tell them to kiss her ass and then start voting more with the democrats - which I think would be a 'good' thing ;)
I am still hoping that Murkowski and Miller will split the republican vote equally and the democrats come out full force for McAdams!

Come on Alaska VOTE FOR McADAMS for U.S. Senate!

1. There will be a spelling test
Not sure if people in a state that would vote for Caribou Barbie can do the M-U-R-K-O-W-S-K-I thing correctly. Expect Miller to challenge every vote she gets if he comes in second.

2. On Tweety's show it was announced that the standard would be
very liberal--if they can derive the voter's intention to write in and vote for Murkowski, she'll get the vote.

But, yes, there could surely be a challenge if close and I can't imagine it would not be.

4. Yes.
Murkowski is expected to announce this evening that she is running as a write-in.
So, it will be just like FL :)
